The Village School of Naples is seeking a full-time, armed Safety & Security Officer. The Village School values inquiry-based, student-centered learning aimed to empower and inspire students to create solutions to challenges faced in an ever-changing world.


The Safety & Security Officer is responsible for assisting the Director of Safety & Security with planning, coordinating and implementing activities related to the campus safety and security of students, employees, congregants, visitors, and the protection of property. This role acts as an additional subject matter expert and advisor in meeting the goals and objectives of campus safety and security procedures and programs. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they pertain to safety and security and ensures all emergency policies and procedures are followed. This position makes recommendations and exercises independent judgment in the course of carrying out responsibilities in collaboration and communication with the Director of Safety & Security. This position is a 12-month position, Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Emergency Response

Assist the Director of Safety & Security:

  • Act as first responder and assistant incident commander for any emergency crisis.
  • Respond to any threats, medical emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms, or intrusion alarms, and follow emergency response procedures.
  • Assist with conducting risk assessments, fire drills, lockdown drills and act as crowd control manager to secure safety on campus.
  • Assist with response to student threats, locker searches, disciplinary concerns, and removal of students or parents from campus due to restrictions or withdrawal of enrollment.
  • Recommend and update alert messages to school, church, and parents such as Lockdown Emergency and “All Clear,” etc.
  • Identify, investigate, or resolve security breaches.
  • Communicate with Director of Safety & Security and Collier County Sheriff’s Office to ensure an awareness of any possible threats and crimes in the area.
  • Serve as backup for Director of Safety & Security and coordinate schedules to ensure coverage during absences.
  • Collaborate, communicate and regularly report to the Director of Safety & Security about all emergency response planning, incidents and actions taken.

2. Safety and Prevention

Assist the Director of Safety & Security:

  • Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing security activities to safeguard company assets, employees, visitors and others on property.
  • Assist in the termination/resignation process of employees to ensure a safe environment and return of all company assets, i.e. facilities keys, electronics (chrome books, lab tops, iPads).
  • Maintain an awareness of student parking issues, parent custody arrangements, and known local, state or national elevated risk activities.
  • Assist with inspecting or evaluating workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Monitor lightning detection systems.
  • Inspect AED/defibrillators and report issues and service needs as necessary.
  • Understanding of Crowd Control Management requirements.
  • Assist in managing school carline, ensuring a safe and efficient process.
  • Participate in Health and Safety Team as backup for the Director of Safety & Security.
  • Attend other safety related meetings, events or training/continuing education sessions as assigned by the Director of Safety & Security.
  • Serve as backup for Director of Safety & Security and coordinate schedules to ensure coverage during absences
  • Conduct perimeter and door/gate checks to ensure campus is fully secured and locked each day.
  • Maintain awareness of security camera system, capabilities and assist with review of footage as necessary.
  • Collaborate, communicate and regularly report the Director of Safety & Security about all safety and prevention planning, incidents and actions taken.

3. Training and Administrative

  • Assist with creating and implementing emergency, safety, and security standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Write incident reports of activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, accidents or unusual occurrences.
  • Assist with conducting OSHA, Emergency, Safety, & Security Training for campus.
  • Provide detailed communication to the Director of Safety & Security regarding any situations that may occur on campus.
  • Performs other related duties, as required.

Requirements


  • At least 2 years’ experience in law enforcement is required. Military experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle stressful or emergency situations in a calm and steady manner.
  • Must be weapons qualified in carrying a firearm on school and church campus.
  • Experience developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to analyze and evaluate information to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated active listening skills and ability to resolve conflicts or otherwise negotiate with others.
  • Ability to communicate their faith and support the school’s Christian environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with administrators, teachers, other school and church employees, parents, and the general public. Must be professional and approachable.
  • Must enjoy working with children and foster an encouraging environment.
  • Must possess strong technology skills.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Possess both Class D Security Officer License for State of Florida and Class G Statewide Firearm License, both by the Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Division of Licensing.
  • Annual 4 Hour Class G License Requalification for firearms training and testing of Florida laws and statutes.
  • Concealed Weapon or Firearm License State of Florida, by the Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Division of Licensing.
  • First Aid, CPR, & AED certification.
  • Collier County Fire Department Crowd Control Manger certification.
  • OSHA 30 hour certification.



Physical Requirements

Requires walking, standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, simple grasping, pushing pulling, fine motor and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing and reaching. Work is performed inside and outside in seasonal temperatures and requires walking several hours per day over a 23-acre campus with multiple buildings. Ability to run to respond to a threat or emergency is required, along with the ability to move people from danger, including carrying unconscious persons.
