About the Department
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Crew Leader in the Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities department at the Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville. This department manages Asheville’s premier event spaces, providing top-tier entertainment, sports, and cultural events for the community. The Crew Leader will lead assigned staff in the daily maintenance, custodial, and event operations at Harrah's Cherokee Center in downtown Asheville. This is a fast-paced environment where planning, organization, and attention to detail are essential.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading and coordinating daily work activities of assigned co-workers, organizing tasks, and monitoring work progress.
- Assisting with complex/problem situations and providing technical expertise.
- Training and instructing co-workers on operational procedures and proper use of equipment.
- Leading and participating in opening and closing duties, including unlocking and locking doors and managing lighting systems.
- Leading and participating in custodial duties, such as dusting, polishing, disinfecting, and restocking paper supplies.
- Leading and participating in event support activities, including setting up and breaking down meetings, concerts, and performances.
- Performing minor maintenance and repairs at the facility.
- Utilizing personal protective and safety equipment and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Assisting with other activities in support of facility operations, such as tracking work orders and monitoring inventory.
- Communicating with supervisors, other City employees, the public, and other individuals to coordinate work activities and resolve problems.
- Salary: $22.46 Hourly
- 13 paid holidays, plus you will earn paid sick and vacation hours

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
- Three (3) years of experience in general labor, facility operations, maintenance, or a related field plus a High school diploma/GED (Required)
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects safely.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Work Schedule: Schedule will vary based on events. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position. A standard day is 8 am - 5 pm. Evenings, weekends, and some holidays will be required as needed for event coverage.
