Duties

The employee works with a wide variety of insects and plant pest, including those not commonly recognized and often not hard to find. Utilizing suitable Integrated Pest Management control methods, the employee selects, with the guidance of the Greens Superintendent, mixes and applies restricted and general use pesticides. Employee inspects the grounds for evidence of conditions conducive to damage or infestation be insects, weeds or plant disease, directs tractor operator NA-5705-07 when assigned. Employee performs other duties assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or his Assistant that are consistent with the mission of the organization, i.e., tractor operator, mower operation, gardening and tree pruning and other duties so assigned by the Greens Superintendent.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: The ability to apply Integrated Pest Management Techniques, i.e., knowledge of Pest, life cycles, tolerance thresholds, alternative control measures and proper pesticide selection with regard to site and climate variation. Knowledge of turf and ornamental plant diseases and pest, and the ability to detect and identify their characteristic symptoms; and understand the principles of weed and aquatic vegetation control. Acquired skill in the application of toxic pesticides on golf course areas, in and around golfers and maintenance workers, over irregularly shaped target terrain in a safe and accurate manner, utilizing various dispersal techniques such as powered hydraulic sprayers, tractor powered spreaders and hand applicators. The ability to use algebra and arithmetic in selected formulas involving area volume and diluent percentages to computer proper pesticide amounts and calibration of equipment. Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations, which deal with mixing, application and disposal of pesticides, the ability to read and understand pesticide labels and labeling. The ability to use hand tools to perform operator maintenance on application equipment. To change nozzles, valves, hoses, adjust and calcabrate pumps and lubricate if required. Acquired leadership ability and knowledge of golf course maintenance practices and techniques. Experience in operating greens mowers, mowing tractors and a wide variety of golf course maintenance machinery The employee must: Have a valid state driver's license. Submit to a fitness physical exam yearly. Have a State issued Pest Control Applicator license and must complete the DoD Certificate of Competency within one year of employment. Be an accomplished field tractor operator. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education
