Nationality, visas and vetting: For security reasons this role is open to sole UK nationals only. A ‘sole UK national’ refers to an individual who holds citizenship solely in the UK with no prior nationalities, without dual citizenship or nationality from another country. We’re unable to offer visa sponsorship. 

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months.

As a Principal Project Security Officer, you’ll be part of a close-knit team of 11 dedicated security professionals, working together to provide expert advice throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle. From initial concept to final disposal, you’ll collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to identify, assess, and minimise security risks associated with the procurement of critical assets and services. Your expertise and teamwork will make a real difference, helping to safeguard the future of our projects and the people who rely on them.

We champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required (this is expected to be approximately up to 60% of your working week) to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance and business need. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role. 

What you’ll be doing 

 

• Identify and manage assets developed, processed or shared with suppliers, including with domestic and international partners. Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in order to influence and change security decisions and manage the delivery of the required security assets.  

• Ensure acquisitions/service programmes and suppliers comply with all relevant security legislation and regulatory requirements. Explains the principal requirements of major legislative regulatory instruments relevant to security, and the legal and regulation relevant to the role. Reviews and implements alterations to operating procedures in response to changes in regulations. Reports residual non-compliance to management in accordance with DE&S procedures.  

• Implement governance structures to manage all security risks from conception to disposal of assets. Develops complex and innovative risk management plans, enabling DE&S to deliver balanced and cost–effective risk management decisions based on advanced threat principles and concepts. Leads risk assessment and mitigation plan development. Ensures that risk is embedded in DE&S governance processes and integrates risk management processes into appropriate business activities.  

• Act on intelligence indicating any risk to the supply chain, including providing advice and assurance on supplier’s security across acquisitions and services, and encourage continuous improvement. Identifies and implements new  secure supply chain management controls to reflect changes in factors such as threat levels and legislation. Develops secure supply chain management processes to meet standards or changes to standards. Responds to challenges to policies, procedures and guidelines and implements continuous improvements.   

• Develops and applies new concepts in Physical Security, involving the other specialisms. Promotes Physical Security as a business enabler throughout DE&S, providing advice to others.  

• Applies concepts of Protective security within the context of the other specialisms, and keeps knowledge up to date. Champions Protective security within the wider security profession, providing advice to others.  

 

Person specification 
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria: 

  • Lead Essential Criteria #1 Relevant industry or government qualifications and accreditations e.g. Security Institute Level 3 Diploma or similar 

  • Essential Criteria #2 - Membership of a relevant institution or body e.g. The Security Institute or a commitment to obtain in post
