Job Summary & Responsibilities:

The role of a House Officer in the Anesthesia Department involves a range of responsibilities that are crucial for the smooth operation of the department. Here are the key responsibilities and expectations for a House Officer in this role:

• Peri-operative Assessment

  • Conducting thorough assessments of patients before and after surgery to ensure safe and effective anesthesia management.

• Intra-operative Care

  • Providing direct care to surgical patients during procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.

• Postoperative Visit

  • Visiting patients after surgery to monitor recovery and address any concerns.

• Skill Development

  • Gaining experience in airway management, vascular access, and neural blockade.

• Shift Management

  • Working during specified hours, which may include long days, nights, and weekends, with a minimum of 2 hours per week dedicated to medical learning.

• Rostered Duties

  • In the first six months, House Officers may be rostered to Starship for up to two weeks and Greenlane Surgical Unit for up to ten weeks.

• Education and Training

  • Participating in formal teaching sessions and gaining experience under supervision.
