We are now hiring Ceremony Registrars for the 2026 wedding season.
The Service & Team:
The registration service attends more than 3,000 civil weddings and civil partnerships every year. Cornwall is a premier wedding destination, and we are looking for people with a flexible approach to working to join our busy ceremony team.
Couples can hold their ceremony at a variety of venues such as registration offices, castles, stately homes, vineyards, working farms, rustic barns as well as subtropical gardens, wildlife sanctuaries and traditional Cornish engine houses.

The role:
- Starting Hourly rate: Celebrant: £15.92 Recording officer: £13.84
- Ceremony Work is seasonal. April to October being the main wedding season.
- Ceremonies are allocated on a monthly basis, however there is no guarantee of work each week other than 3 hours per month for administration purposes
Working Pattern:
We ask all candidates to share their availability over a 28-day period. You can choose how many days per week you’re available, but we do have a few minimum requirements:
- At least 8 days of availability within each 28-day period
- Some weekday & weekend availability
- Between May and September, you must be available for at least 3 out of every 4 Saturdays
This flexibility allows you to choose what works best for you, while helping us plan effectively.

What you’ll need to succeed:
We are looking for individuals who demonstrate:
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a confident, tactful, and empathetic approach to working with the public.
- A professional demeanour and appearance, suitable for a customer-facing role.
- The ability to be proactive and exercise sound judgement, while working within a legal and procedural framework.
- Strong IT proficiency, with confidence in using digital systems and tools.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A flexible approach to working hours and locations, adapting to the needs of the service.
- The ability to travel independently, including to remote venues not accessible by public transport.
- This is a public-facing role, and therefore the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
In Addition, Celebrants must:
- Be confident public speaker, capable of engaging and energising a room of people or wedding guests.
- Have the ability to tailor a script to reflect a couple’s unique preferences and personalities.
- Be skilled in coordinating and managing the flow of ceremonies/events, ensuring a smooth and memorable experience.
