Summary:
The Senior Manager Tax oversees all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting for the bank and its subsidiaries, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in banking and financial services taxation, strong leadership skills, and the ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee preparation and timely filing of federal, state, and local income/franchise tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws, regulatory requirements, and industry-specific banking tax provisions.
- Manage quarterly and annual tax provisions (ASC 740) and related financial statement disclosures.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and evaluate the potential impact on the bank’s operations, financial reporting, and tax strategy.
- Review and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Lead communications with taxing authorities, including responding to examinations, audits, and inquiries.
- Partner with Accounting, Treasury, and Legal teams to provide tax insights on transactions and new products.
Qualifications (Education, Computer Skills, Certifications, etc.):
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
- CPA required.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive tax experience, with at least 5 years in the financial services or banking industry.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740, federal and state tax regulations, and banking-specific tax considerations.
- Advanced skills in tax compliance and provision software, financial modeling, and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, provide strategic guidance, and influence senior leadership.
- High attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent organizational skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a professional, collaborative approach.
