About the Department
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Strategic Grants and Initiatives Manager is a full-time Civil Service position responsible for leading the development, planning, and oversight of the Metro Nashville Arts Commission’s community funding programs and initiatives. The role oversees the administration and evaluation of grants – including general operating support and project grants that support a wide range of organizations and artist-led initiatives across Davidson County. The Manager provides direction for community programs, initiatives, and partnerships at the local, state and national level that advance the mission of Metro Arts.

Position Duties
- Administers and provides oversight for all phases of Metro Arts’ grants and funding programs.
- Reviews and updates funding criteria, guidelines, and processes regularly.
- Manages and oversees the administration of funding review panels and the training and recruitment of panelists.
- Monitors compliance of all grant awards and implements financial monitoring system with the Finance Administrator.
- Assesses funding priorities and makes recommendations toward short and long-range goals.
- Manages data and prepares regular reports on Metro Arts’ funding initiatives to assist with decision making and planning.
- Designs and oversees evaluation efforts to measure the impact of public investment in the arts.
- Determines how the impact of funding serves all communities to engage in the arts, with specific attention to previously underserved communities in Nashville.
- Seeks, develops, and administers external funding opportunities through partnerships and re-granting opportunities.
- Serves as lead staff support to the Grants and Funding Committee of the Arts Commission.
- Supports the development of new programs and initiatives to support artists and arts organizations across the Nashville ecosystem regarding funding, professional development, and training opportunities.
- Supervises and provides support to restorative arts, community engagement, and grant project managers.
- Prepares and monitors program budgets in coordination with Finance Administrator.
- Collaborates with Public Information Manager to develop and implement communication strategies to show the impact and value of the arts in the Nashville area.
- Works on special projects, prepares and presents reports as assigned.
- Represents Metro Arts and builds and maintains relationships with individuals and organizations to strengthen partnerships, outreach, and opportunities aligned with the mission.
- Responsible for continuous process improvements by facilitating clear and open feedback, employee evaluations, and documentation of work performance.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree plus five (5) years of professional experience in an administrative, program management, philanthropic or related field.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Other Qualifications
- Excellent project management, including the ability to produce, track and manage multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in developing and/or evaluating programs or policies within arts, restorative justice, or other community-based initiatives.
- Grant prospecting and grant writing.
- Familiarity with budgeting and grant-related financial processes.
- Supervision and team leadership experience, including coordinating and reviewing the work of others.
