Job Summary
Conducts investigations of a variety of violations of School District policies. Gathers, verifies and documents information on incidents involving District personnel and/or students. Attends court proceedings or hearings to provide testimony and prepares written reports detailing findings of investigative research which include objective recommendations for case disposition.


Essential Functions
• Investigates serious incidents and allegations of illegal activities such as robbery, vandalism, rape and theft involving School District personnel and/or students; examines available evidence; locates, interrogates and takes statements from witnesses, victims and suspects.
• Investigates reported violations of School District policies such as sick leave and sabbatical abuse; performs surveillance of suspected parties and reports finding to appropriate administrators.
• Develops and maintains contacts within the District Attorney’s Office, local law enforcement agencies; municipal court and probation officials, school security personnel, School District administrators and faculty.
• As required, attends court proceedings and hearings in order to provide testimony.
• Prepares detailed written reports of assigned investigations.


Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of full-time, paid, experience as a permanently appointed School Safety Officer or School Security Officer within the School District of Philadelphia.
OR
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge of:
o School District of Philadelphia regulations, policies, procedures and objectives.
o principles of criminal investigative techniques used in the School District of Philadelphia.
o the identification and preservation of physical evidence used by the School District of Philadelphia.

• Demonstrated ability to:
o obtain facts and information by interrogation and interview.                                                                                                                                              o analyze information objectively and make cogent decisions and recommendations for the disposition of cases.
o observe and record details accurately.
o communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
o establish and maintain effective working relationships

Certificate/License
• Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania proper class license to operate a motor vehicle prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment.
