About the Department
The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work. This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work. Completes logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.
Position Duties
- Operates vehicles such as trucks to haul people or material to job sites.
- Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment.
- Performs maintenance duties as assigned; assists with setting up forms and pouring concrete, serves as traffic flagger on street or utility projects.
- Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, and other maintenance tasks.
- Performs utility service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, manholes, and sewer lines.
- Performs street maintenance raking and spreading asphalt or patching holes.
- Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs.
- Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires two years or more of routine manual work experience. General knowledge of computer usage preferred. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must obtain a Class B CDL permit w/air brake endorsement within six (6) months of employment and a Class B CDL within one (1) year of employment.
