The Assistant Director of Veterans Benefits plays a key role in the daily operations of the Veterans Benefits team within the Student Financial Services Office. Serving as a designated School Certifying Official (SCO), the Assistant Director is primarily responsible for certifying veterans education benefits with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This role also involves frequent interaction with students through various communication channels, providing guidance and support throughout the benefits process.

This is a full-time hybrid role with a minimum of two required days at Excelsior's home office of 7 Columbia Circle, Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked from home. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The following duties and responsibilities, but not limited to, are expected:

  • Provide responsive, student-centered support through phone, email, and other communication platforms.
  • Advocate for students by supporting their understanding and access to education benefits, and by representing their needs and concerns within institutional processes and policies.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and institutional regulations
  • Support the collection, review, and processing of required documentation and forms to ensure timely and accurate certification.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and continuous improvement of unit processes related to Veterans programs administered by the University.
  • Serve as a liaison with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other relevant agencies to facilitate benefit certification and issue resolution.
  •  Engage in ongoing professional development and actively contribute to the growth and knowledge-sharing of team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the unit and the students we serve.

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in higher education
  • Preferred experience supporting veteran students
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to serving a diverse student population

The hiring salary range for this position is $48,000.00 – 50,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
