About Us


Points East Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) in Wilson, NC is a Level III VECCS-certified facility located in a brand-new, 17,000 sq. ft. hospital that opened in October 2023. We are proud to offer advanced, collaborative veterinary care with a robust team that includes 13 full-time dedicated ER doctors, 2.5 board-certified criticalists, 2 board-certified surgeons, and a full diagnostic imaging service equipped with ultrasound and a 64-slice CT scanner. We are excited to announce that we are expanding with the launch of a brand-new Internal Medicine service in November 2025, and we are seeking a skilled and motivated Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team during this exciting growth.


Position Summary


The Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician will play a critical role in the success of our new specialty service. This position requires a strong foundation in veterinary nursing, excellent technical skills, and the ability to support both clients and our Internal Medicine specialist in a fast-paced referral environment. The technician will assist with complex diagnostics, advanced procedures, patient care, and client education while ensuring efficiency and compassion are at the forefront of our service.


Duties:

  • Provide high-level technical support for Internal Medicine diagnostics and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Abdominal and thoracic ultrasound assistance
    • Endoscopic procedures (gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary)
    • Bone marrow aspirates, joint taps, and other advanced sampling techniques
    • ACTH stimulation tests, bile acid studies, and other specialty lab procedures
  • Safely restrain and manage patients for advanced diagnostics and treatments.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, urinary catheterization, and other advanced nursing techniques.
  • Accurately calculate, prepare, and administer medications (including CRIs, anesthesia, and sedation under DVM supervision).
  • Manage patient flow and ensure efficiency of the Internal Medicine schedule.
  • Provide clear communication and empathetic client education regarding procedures, care instructions, and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records (Instinct EMR).
  • Support inventory management and preparation of specialty equipment and supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with the specialty and ER teams to ensure continuity of care.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong technical proficiency with advanced diagnostic and patient care skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and client service skills.
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional growth in specialty medicine.

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 70 lbs occasionally with assistance.
  • Stand for extended periods of time (up to 10–12 hours).
  • Walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach regularly as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Perform repetitive tasks involving hands and arms (e.g., typing, lifting, restraining, cleaning).

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed/credentialed veterinary technician (RVT) required.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in veterinary medicine; specialty or referral experience preferred.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time position with a consistent weekday schedule aligned with the Internal Medicine service. Monday through Thursday - Day shift, NO ON CALL.
