Position Overview
We are seeking an exceptional Head of School who will lead our classical Christian school with both educational excellence and compassionate service. This role requires a bilingual leader with a deep understanding of urban education challenges and a proven ability to design and implement comprehensive support systems that address both academic and behavioral needs of our diverse student population. The Head of School should manifest a proven ability to close the achievement gap and create a culture of academic and moral excellence, on par or better than other Great Hearts academies.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Christian Head of School reports directly to the Christian Executive Director and acts as the leading administrator of the academy in the absence of the Executive Director. The Head of School partners with the Executive Director in leading a community that exists to glorify God by cultivating students who are intellectually, morally, and spiritually free. He or she works closely with the Executive Director to cultivate a campus culture in which people grow in their love of Christ and seek academic excellence in service to Him.
Candidates will have prior experience working as a dean or assistant headmaster and possess demonstrable excellence in classroom teaching. He or she will demonstrate a classical ethos, pathos, and logos and possess a well-grounded vision for the moral and intellectual formation of the human person. A Great Hearts Christian Head of School is called to establish and nurture a joyful and faith-filled academic community. Candidates should have a proven ability to foster strong, healthy relationships throughout their community. The Head of School will:
Collaborate with the Christian Executive Director to cultivate strong campus instruction and faith-formation:
Partner with the Executive Director in interviewing and on-boarding teachers according to the statement of faith and academic mission
Plan and execute teacher training, teacher in-service days, and faculty meetings as they pertain to instructional activities and development.
Lead morning chapel
Serve on a leadership team that works together to coach and support teachers
Provide visionary leadership for classical Christian curriculum implementation
Develop and oversee comprehensive academic intervention programs tailored to student needs
Monitor and analyze student achievement data to drive instructional improvement and excellence
Design and implement multi-tiered behavioral support systems, created for targeted academic intervention programs for struggling learners
Ensure the needs of all students are met, including high performing students
Create a deliberate and intentional classical culture that habituates moral virtue.
Oversee daily school operations and ensure safe, orderly learning environment
Manage school budget and resources with stewardship and accountability
Collaborate with the Christian Executive Director to provide student and family leadership:
As the primary relationship leader with families and the community, provide active leadership and participation in student recruitment, including tours and other prospective family events
Build strong relationships with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
Foster partnerships with local churches, community organizations, and service providers
Monitor the health of the student community
Implement a system for student discipline
Proactively work with students to build relationships and improve behavior issues, as well as academic engagement and student confidence.
Assist and develop effective classroom management tools for faculty.
Serve as primary interventionist on school-wide behavioral programs (Love and Logic, PBIS, etc.).
Collaborate with the Christian Executive Director to provide organizational leadership:
Execute the Great Hearts Christian mission and statement of faith
Interpret the mission and goals of the Academy to the students, parents, teachers, and community.
Oversee the planning for key school events and make decisions necessary to support them.
Serve on the school Leadership Team, supporting all leadership team tasks as assigned by Executive Director
Qualifications
Christian Testimony and Faith-formation Leadership: He or she affirms the Great Hearts Christian statement of faith, is a practicing Christian, and lives as an example of Christian virtue in all aspects of his or her life. He or she is confident in leading prayer and cultivating the Christ-centered culture of the schools’ communities.
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: At least 3 years of experience serving as a dean, assistant headmaster, preferably at a Great Hearts school or in a comparable classical or Christian school.
Additional Requirements
Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP level fingerprint clearance card.
Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
Travel required: May need to travel locally to the various church academies within the Phoenix metro area.
