PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide emergency and routine first aid care, conduct required health screening at the campus level, maintain necessary medical records and provide reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas LVN license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR
Strong organizational communication, and interpersonal skills
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
Ability to use personal computer and software to develop databases and do word processing
Experience:
One-year experience in health-related position, preferably including contact with school age children
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Health Service
1.1 Perform first aid and emergency procedures for ill and injured students
1.2 Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures; maintain accurate log of medications dispensed
1.3 Conduct screening activities including measuring height and weight, testing vision and hearing, and examining spinal cord and scalp.
1.4 Maintain accurate record of all students, visits to health office indicating reason for visit. Action taken and disposition (ie – home or rest time center of student)
1.5 Assist students with disabilities as necessary
2. Safety
2.1 Use Universal Precautions when cleaning up all body spills and providing wound care
2.2 Maintain a healthy environment by promoting optimum sanitary conditions in the school facility
3. Clerical
3.1 Record standardized information on cumulative health records
3.2 Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents, including accurate, updated records of health information on all students
3.3 Prepare correspondence, reports, and records using personal computer or typewriter
3.4 Maintain a daily log of health office activities, including reportable accidents, and communicable disease data
3.5 Maintain clinic supply inventory and order supplies as needed
3.6 Prepare and arrange bulletin boards, displays, models, etc.
4. Administration
4.1 Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of health services
4.2 Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations
4.3 Maintain confidentiality
5. Professional
5.1 Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Professional Educators Code of Ethics
5.2 Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the principal
EQUIPMENT USED:
Electronic or manual thermometer, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, stethoscope, scoliometer, otis, ophthalmoscope, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, and copier.
