SUMMARY: The Elementary Mathematics Coach collaborates with teachers to provide instructional support and pedagogical content knowledge for mathematics teaching and learning, using the Massachusetts Frameworks and the NCTM Teaching Practices. In addition, coaches plan and facilitate district wide workshops, and prepare curriculum materials and assessments. Our educators are engaged in a collective and intentional effort to build cultural competency and foster racial equity. Required Qualifications:
- Massachusetts DESE certification Math (1-6)
- Master’s Degree in Education
- Three or more years of successful math teaching
Desired Qualifications:
- DESE SEI Endorsement
- Deep knowledge of the MA Curriculum Frameworks for Mathematics, including the content standards and standards for mathematical practice
- Familiarity and genuine buy-in of NCTMs Principles to Actions and the eight Mathematics Teaching Practices
- Demonstrated investment in creating equitable learning experiences for all students using Culturally Responsive Instruction anbd Universal Design for Learning practices
- Experience facilitating adult learning and coaching elementary educators using a coaching cycle, or similar protocol
- Ability to build professional relationships with teachers that inspire trust, self-reflection and collaboration when sharing successful math instructional strategies
- Strong knowledge and understanding of MTSS
- Ability to collect and analyze student learning data to inform decisions about instruction
- Ability to help teachers understand and use data in ways that meaningfully impact instruction and student learning
- Demonstrated ability to model effective math lessons aligned to standards, balancing conceptual and procedural learning, integrating the mathematical practices, and differentiating planning based on data
- A working knowledge of current research, trends in best practices and resources related to district goals
- Motivated self-starter who can work independently as well as collaboratively with teachers, staff and other coaches
- Strong communication skills
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
- Coach teachers on the implementation of district curriculum, focusing on new teachers and teachers new to a grade level
- Participate in grade-level PLCs regularly to: look at student work, differentiate Tier I instruction, determine tiered interventions and develop goals for students based on progress monitoring data
- Develop curriculum, instruction, intervention, and assessments
- Co-lead data meetings with other instructional coaches and make intervention recommendations informed by student data
- Plan and facilitate district professional development in collaboration with other coaches/specialists
- Facilitate the administration, recording, and analysis of universal assessments
- Oversee the implementation and monitor levels of usage of ST Math in all classrooms
- Provide training and support for teachers and teaching assistants in the ELL and Special Education Departments in assessment, instruction, and intervention
- Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
- Responsible for implementing “other job-related duties” as needed
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand;while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit; walk; lift; or carry.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.
