Job Description:

What’s the role

Prelude FLNG is the world's first operational floating liquefied natural gas facility, designed to extract, liquefy, and store natural gas offshore, significantly contributing to the global LNG supply. The facility measures 488 meters in length and 74 meters in width, making it the largest floating facility ever constructed.

The role of the Offshore Structures Engineer reports into the Subsea and Structures Lead and provides Offshore Structures (fixed platform, floating structures and topsides structures) technical support and assurance to all parts of the Prelude and Crux assets, from front-line operations through to brownfield projects.

The role will have exposure to all working levels in the Prelude business from people in front line operations and maintenance teams through to VP-level senior leadership.  As a member of the Integrated Engineering team in Perth, you will work closely with engineers from other disciplines and will engage with the Shell’s global engineering community to share knowledge.

The successful candidate will be required to make regular visits offshore to the Prelude & Crux facilities.

What you’ll be doing

The principal accountabilities of this role include:

  • Demonstrate visible commitment Shell’s HSE culture.

  • Undertake structural integrity assessments for the topsides, hull and jacket structures to ensure compliance to the facility Safety Case and Shell & Industry standards.

  • Participate in the management of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) plans, care strategies and maintenance practices in line with the Safety Case, Class Rules, offshore and marine industry standards and guidelines.

  • Effectively rank and prioritise maintenance and repair activities, based on risk/value trade-offs.

  • Record and track structural anomalies and assist in the development of rectification plans.

  • Develop risk assessments to cover structural engineering deviations.

  • Perform fitness for service assessments for structures.

  • Manage asset weight control.

  • Provide engineering support to turnarounds.

What you bring

The successful candidate must:

  • Be a degree-qualified engineer in a Civil/Structural discipline, having relevant experience in design and analysis of fixed and/or floating offshore structures.

  • Be able to perform analysis of topsides and jacket structures using SACS structural analysis software.  In addition, experience using SESAM would be beneficial, but not essential for the role.

  • Have experience of performing design calculations for brownfields modifications to offshore structures, utilising Australian and industry standards.

  • Have good working knowledge of in-situ structural repair methodologies for offshore operating facilities.

  • Be able to apply HSE risk assessment and ALARP principles.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation, and people management skills.

  • Bring technical curiosity and a problem solving mindset to work.

It is the ambition of Shell Australia to embed the culture of ‘improving the business’ as core to doing business and you will be an ambassador for this shift in culture.

APPLICATION PERIOD WILL RUN UNTIL OCTOBER 2.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email providing a link to an online assessment that is a mandatory part of the process and has a validity period. The email will come from Shell (HireVue) - please check your spam/junk mailbox if you do not see the email. Once completed, your application will be reviewed to determine next steps. Thank you for your interest in Shell.
