ArcelorMittal has full or partial ownership over mining assets across Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, with operating mines in Brazil, Bosnia, Canada, India, Liberia, Mexico, Ukraine and non-operating mines in South Africa.
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Dry Tailings Expert to join our corporate CTO team in leading the transition to dry tailings across our portfolio of iron ore mining operations in over 8 countries.
This pivotal role will ensure stewardship, regulatory compliance, and sustainability performance across all sites, working closely with country-level teams and corporate leadership to drive best practices and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities:
Strategy:
- Development of site-specific dry tailings transition plans.
- Assist in the development of internal policies, standards and procedures.
- Ensure all operations are aligned with corporate standards, GISTM and country-specific regulatory requirements.
Site Support & Coordination:
- Collaborate with site teams to provide technical support and engineering review.
- Review tailings designs and to ensure compliance with the required standards.
- Support in the development of concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility and design.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and internal consultant on tailings facilities.
Capacity Building:
- Work closely with R&D to develop new tailings initiatives and research programmes.
- Work with operations to upskill staff on a technical level.
- Represent the company in forums, regulatory engagements, and industry associations.
Qualifications & Experiences:
- Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s in Geotechnical, Civil, Mechanical, Process Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of consultancy and/or experience in tailings operations, with a strong focus on project development and international sites.
- Experience of study management from concept through to detailed design.
- Experience of operating dry tailings facilities.
- Deep knowledge of global standards and best practices in the mining sector.
- Experience in managing complex issues across jurisdictions and multicultural teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages (Spanish, French, Portuguese) are an advantage.
