JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing a positive community relations experience to all residents and guests by monitoring traffic flow into and out of the neighborhood communities of The Villages, answering questions and assisting in whatever way possible to help people moving in and around The Villages. Ensure smooth traffic flow into and out of the gate area, controlling gate arm activation.
The schedule for this position is four days working then four days off on a rotating basis. Shifts are six hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes, but not limited to)
- Acknowledges by standing to greet all residents & guests with a physical (i.e., hand wave) and/or verbal greeting and a friendly smile as they enter gate area;
- Regulates traffic and monitors visitor’s lane ensuring safe passage for both visitors and residents;
- Monitors mechanical gate operations to provide a safe flow of traffic into the community. Assists in the flow of traffic by operating the gate as designed;
- Assists residents and guests with directions by providing written (i.e., word maps) and/or verbal guidance;
- Accurately reports emergency incidents to 911 or dispatchers;
- Reports to Dispatch any accident and/or incident occurring at gate, and prepares/collects all applicable information related to same for claims reporting purposes for supervisor collection;
- Collects and reports moving van destination and reports to Dispatch so as to enable efficient work process and property/safety check;
- Ensures the expedient passage of emergency vehicles (i.e., Law Enforcement/Public Safety and other designated agencies) by assisting with the traffic flow into and out of the gates;
- Instructs residents and visitors on proper use of gate cards;
- Reports broken or malfunctioning gates immediately to Dispatch, including gate house and equipment within the gate house;
- Maintains within the gate house a clean, orderly and secure environment as required, including desk, floors, windows, bathroom, etc.;
- Keeps gate house appropriately stocked with word maps, supply forms and other items as the need arises so that following shifts are not left in short supply;
- Wears appropriate uniform as designated in department Policy & Procedures, specific to your position;
- May be required to work some holidays.
Additional
- Performs other duties as assigned;
- May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required;
- All candidates and employees must successfully pass background screening.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- Prior customer service experience preferred;
- Knowledge as required to support the Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
Skills:
- Must possess basic computer skills, including but not limited to:
- the ability to enter time in The District’s electronic timekeeping system;
- the ability to successfully navigate online training modules and assignments;
- the ability to successfully complete onboarding documents as required;
- the ability to e-sign documents as assigned by The District.
Abilities:
- Be able to stand at gate and greet residents/guests for up to six hours at a time;
- Ability to work outside in heat or cold;
- Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to our residents;
- Position requires attention to detail and follow established rules;
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to (30) lbs. (i.e. cones, barricades);
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional appearance.
EQUIPMENT
Position regularly requires the use of telephones, various office equipment and manually operated switching and traffic control devices. May need to use communications radio and computer keyboard and mouse.

While performing the duties of this job the employee will be exposed to the following:
- Interior office environments, with moderate to loud noise typical for the work environment i.e. when in office setting with moderate noise of computers and printers and moderate customer traffic.

No smoking of any type is allowed within 15 feet of building.
