The Senior Engineer (Application Engineering Specialist) will be responsible for designing, developing, and debugging project application (paint and sealing) hardware and software at FAC and onsite at customer facilities.  Additionally, this role will work with FAC customers to identify and provide sales opportunities for North American Japanese automotive manufacturers.  

The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal and leadership skills with an emphasis on customer satisfaction, is skilled at communicating (verbal and written), has a passion for the automation industry, and a background in industrial robot automation.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Design, development, debug of paint/sealer application hardware & PLC, GUI and robot software.
  • Complete testing of software with application equipment.
  • Travel to customer facilities for onsite debug, commissioning and facility launch.
  • Lead engineer on projects; assume leadership role during project execution for specialized equipment.
  • Build relationships with key Japanese automotive customer technical team members to position FANUC America as their preferred paint robot supplier in the Americas.
  • Clearly identify sales opportunities, social media engagement, press releases regarding business plans, vehicle timing, identification/profile of customer people, and procurement methods.
  • Collaborate with internal team to establish a clear sales strategy for sales approach to customers.
  • Develop proposals focused on customer expectations and specifications.
  • Network with alliance/integrator partners to grow sales and information relative to customer.
  • Interface and liaise with other FANUC groups in Japan, Europe and China.
  • Interact with customers on a regular basis.
  • Maintain strong knowledge and keep up to date on FANUC product information and paint shop automation solutions.
  • Lead the sales process with strong collaboration of other FANUC Organizations in Japan, Europe, and China to promote global benefits.

Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), or equivalent relevant experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum eight years of industrial robot automation or five years of experience with industrial robot automation and experience as a lead engineer on projects of significant size/volume.
  • Minimum three years of paint shop automation experience.
  • Ability to design, develop, and debug paint/sealer application hardware and PLC, GUI, and robot software.
  • Experience with and knowledge of: Toyopuc PLC code (preferred), Trinity applicators – bell applicators (required), and Toyota Carrot3 robot simulation software (preferred).
  • Experience with capital equipment sales and/or project/program management.
  • Experience in and knowledge of automotive paint applications and systems; including Trinity paint application equipment (required).
  • Fluent in Japanese and English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to manage in a highly aggressive fast paced environment.
  • Ability to review technical specifications and customer expectations (in Japanese and English)
