The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative (FFEI) Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates* who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. For Winter 2026, internships will last 15 weeks, projected to begin on January 26th and conclude on May 8th.

How will we work together?
The Social Media Intern can expect to work a hybrid schedule. Based on specific project needs, there are times when you and the team will work on-site at The Henry Ford’s campus in Dearborn, MI. Availability on select evenings and weekends will be required based on onsite programming.
Reporting to the Social Media Manager and working directly with the Social Media Specialist, the Social Media Intern will gain experience in social media strategy, content creation, scheduling, auditing and analysis. Potential projects for the Social Media Internship include:
- Learning to organize, schedule, publish and monitor social media posts and campaigns using Sprout Social.
- Creating brand-aligned written, video and photo content tailored to specific audiences and platforms to maximize engagement across The Henry Ford’s social media profiles.
- Auditing The Henry Ford’s YouTube channel, researching industry best practices and providing recommendations to optimize the channel.
- Assisting with the institution’s social media ambassador program, including helping to coordinate ambassador events.
- Representing The Henry Ford at promotional or community activations and events.
What should you have?
- A marketing or communications background
- An interest in professional social media marketing
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills
- Experience planning, filming and editing short-form videos
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
- Curiosity
- Dedication to collaboration and teamwork
- Ability to ask for help

The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative Internship Program Overview and Time Commitment
The FFEI Internship Program’s mission is to offer opportunities in museum work to emerging professionals who identify with historically marginalized groups and to invite our interns to think outside the box and explore their careers in new ways.
Participants will engage in the program through various bi-weekly professional development workshops hosted on our Dearborn campus. It is mandatory for participants to attend, and applicants should work with their leadership to ensure proper attendance. Workshops typically occur on Wednesdays during the work week.
Attendance to our Intern Orientation is also mandatory. Our Winter 2026 orientation will occur on January 26th, 2026.
