Opsam Health is a federally qualified community health center that emerged over fifty years ago. The agency serves low-income families and individuals in the County of San Diego in two (2) strategic areas with a high-density population of Filipinos/Asians and other low-income, uninsured individuals — National City (Southern San Diego County) and Mira Mesa (North Central San Diego).

 

JOB PURPOSE 

 

Dietitians (and nutritionists) help plan and implement balanced, nutritional meal programs and promote healthy eating habits. The dietitian is educated and trained on how to prevent and minimize health issues caused or exacerbated by dietary deficiencies or malnutrition.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Plans, directs, and provides nutritional services, including counseling and educating patients and families.
  • Completing medical nutritional assessments for all patients seen by Dietitian
  • Ensuring documentation on all patients are in accordance with state and federal regulations

 

Quality Management:

  • Contribute to the success of the organization by participating in quality improvement activities.

 

Customer Relations:

  • Maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients, and the public.
  • Be a team player and cooperate in accomplishing department goals and objectives.

 

 

Safety:

  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.
  • Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.
  • Know the location of the nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits.

 

 HIPAA/Compliance:

  • Maintain privacy of all patients, employees, and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes.
  • Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations.   Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with a variety of people
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise analytic ability. 
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Complete many different duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Education 
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or Dietetics
  • Annual Requirement,
  • Registered Dietitian through the Commission of Dietetic Registration
  • At least one year of experience in an outpatient clinic setting is preferred
  • Passionate about providing quality nutritional care to community health center patients

 

 

 

Job Description 

 

  • Evaluate patients referred by providers for nutrition assessment, counseling, and planning.
  • Designs and implements individualized nutrition care plans to Opsam Health patients
  • Educates patients and their family or caregivers regarding health and nutrition either on an individual or group setting.
  • Work with endocrinologists and diabetologist in implementing prediabetes and diabetes education programs
  • Develops meal plans as appropriate to meet members' lifestyles, socio-economic backgrounds, ages, cultures, diagnoses, and religious affiliations.  
  • Work with physicians and other healthcare providers regarding patient and population-specific nutritional needs and concerns
  • Participates in multidisciplinary care teams and Quality Improvement meetings.
  • Provides culturally competent, evidence-based, and patient-centered nutrition screening, assessment, care planning, and education for patients needing appropriate nutrition intervention. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Salary Range 

$34.00 - $40.00/hr based on experience.
