Project Manager – Connected Communities

Job Description

The Project Manager for Connected Communities will lead a grant-funded initiative designed to connect people, resources, and opportunities to help all members of our community age well. This role requires strong organizational skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to build partnerships that reflect the diverse needs of our area.

The position is highly collaborative, working closely with Bethesda staff, community members, volunteers, and a steering committee of partners to ensure the program is sustainable, inclusive, and impactful. Bethesda serves as the fiscal agent for this grant, and the Project Manager is responsible for ensuring funds are managed responsibly and in alignment with grant requirements and Bethesda’s financial policies.

Position Relationships: Reports to: Vice President of Development and Marketing Primary Interrelationships: Bethesda staff, volunteers, Connected Communities Steering Committee, and partner organizations External Relationships: Community leaders, funders, resource providers, and culturally diverse organizations

Schedule: · Full-time | 80 hours every two weeks · Hybrid schedule—combination of on-site work at Bethesda and remote work, based on program needs · Grant-funded through May 2027

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership · Manage the day-to-day operations of the Connected Communities project, ensuring progress on goals and deliverables. · Develop and maintain project standards, methodologies, and best practices. · Review and adapt project scope to meet evolving community needs. · Identify and manage project risks to ensure success.

Cultural Awareness & Community Engagement · Build strong relationships with culturally diverse communities and organizations. · Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, humility, and openness to learning. · Collaborate with local organizations and leaders to enhance access to aging services. · Recruit and support volunteers who serve as cultural liaisons and advocates. · Facilitate opportunities for cross-cultural understanding and inclusion.

Financial Oversight · Track and manage project budgets responsibly. · Coordinate fiscal reporting and compliance with the VP of Development and Marketing. · Assist in researching and writing grant applications for program growth. · Negotiate contracts with suppliers, vendors, or contractors.

Partnership Development · Build partnerships with organizations providing aging-related resources and cultural services. · Connect individuals and families with resources to support aging well. · Collaborate with agencies and nonprofits to share resources and best practices.

Reporting & Documentation · Prepare and submit progress reports to funders, steering committee, and Bethesda leadership. · Document activities, outcomes, and lessons learned. · Provide data to support future grant proposals and sustainability.

Quality Assurance · Ensure project activities meet high standards of quality and integrity. · Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements. · Maintain accountability to the community and funding sources.

Skills and Abilities: · Strong project management and organizational skills. · Excellent facilitation, relationship-building, and communication skills. · Cultural awareness and the ability to work with diverse populations. · Ability to adapt and problem-solve in a dynamic environment. · Strong attention to detail, documentation, and compliance.

Education and Experience: · Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Community Development, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Public Health, etc.). · Proven experience in project management, ideally in community-based, nonprofit, or grant-funded programs. · Experience working with culturally diverse communities. · Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
