The Oregon Zoo is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the Guest Services team during our ZooLights season. As a Guest Service Worker, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in a variety of responsibilities that may include welcoming guests, selling and scanning tickets, operating the zoo carousel, assisting with zoo train operations, supporting special events and more.
As a Guest Services Worker, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and supporting the daily operations of various guest-facing areas throughout the zoo. You will serve as a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional representative, ensuring each guest receives a warm welcome and outstanding service. This position requires availability for a variety of shifts and will be working evenings during the ZooLights season. We are currently looking for applicants who can commit to working 20 hours and at least four days per week, with evening and weekend availability.
As a Guest Services Worker you will:
Provide outstanding customer service while interacting with guests and staff in a courteous, positive, and engaging manner.
Serve at various stations across the zoo, including admissions, public and private events, special exhibits, and popular attractions such as the carousel and train.
Communicate confidently and clearly, including making announcements and providing group instructions as needed.
Maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm to ensure all guests feel acknowledged, supported, and informed throughout their visit.
Operate ticket scanning devices, point-of-sale (POS) cash registers, credit card terminals, and other related equipment with accuracy and efficiency.
Sell and validate zoo tickets and services in a timely and professional manner.
Welcome and orient school groups, tours, and large parties by providing clear expectations and logistical guidance.
Answer guest inquiries regarding ticketing, zoo exhibits, events, amenities, and rules with professionalism and clarity.
Assist with end-of-day procedures, including shutting down equipment, cleaning work areas, and reporting any operational needs to the lead or manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED or sufficient education to demonstrate the ability to read instructions and to perform routine math calculations with accuracy; and
One year of experience providing customer service in a public setting; and
One year of paid experience processing transactions in a customer service setting (e.g., point-of-sale or ticketing systems); or
We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Shifts and schedule:
As a member of the Guest Services staff, you'll need to be flexible with your availability, as shifts will include nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned. Your schedule will vary based on operational needs, weather conditions, and special events at the zoo, including school breaks, holidays, summer, and the ZooLights season.
This is a seasonal position that will start around October 28, 2025 and conclude on January 4, 2026.
Winter season staff can expect a minimum of 20 hours of scheduled shifts per week with the following schedule outlined here:
Daytime operations shift is typically 9 – 5,through November.
Evening shifts start at 4 and may go as late as 11:30 p.m. in December.
Additional hours could be scheduled between December 18 – 31.
Background Check: The candidate selected for the position will need to pass a criminal background check prior to being hired. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude employment and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

REPRESENTATION AND BENEFITS
This seasonal position is eligible for overtime and is represented by the union LiUNA Local 483. It is classified as Guest Services Worker.
Seasonal employees are not eligible for Metro benefits but may qualify for additional incentives—please refer to the union agreement for eligibility details.
Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific responsibilities of the positions. These positions are classified as seasonal. Seasonal employees cannot work more than 1,200 hours per fiscal year.
