PASCACK VALLEY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Night Custodian
Qualifications: 1. Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician with
the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb ladders, etc., and indication of successfully passing a drug test.
2. Demonstrates aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.
3. Possess a Black Seal Low-Pressure Boiler License, be in the process of training for the license, or willing and capable of training for the license.
4. Possess a valid NJ driver's license.
5. Possess working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
6. Possess working knowledge of methods of cleaning/maintaining floors, lavatories, and other areas of the building.
7. Possess working knowledge of sterilization and sanitation methods used in school work.
8. Ability to use electrical and hand appliances ordinarily used in housekeeping activities.
9. Ability to use computers to access emails and enter work orders into electronic work order system.
10. Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
11. Ability to use floor polishing and scrubbing machines and other types of power machines.
12. Ability to take charge of receiving and caring for school supplies when Director of Facilities or Building Coordinator is not available.
13. Ability to perform routine clerical duties when directed by the Director of Facilities and/or Building Coordinator.
14. Possess high moral standards and character necessary for association with students.
Certifications/licenses:
1. Possession of Black Seal Low Pressure Boiler license.
2. Possess a valid driver's license.
Supervises: N/A
Reports to: Director of Facilities, Building Coordinator, Night Lead Custodian
Primary Function: To maintain the cleanliness of the building and provide additional
cleaning or custodial services as required for after school activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Basic Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Carry a radio at all times and confirm that the volume is audible and it is on the correct channel.
2. Assist Director of Facilities and Building Coordinator in procedure for normal operations of buildings (turning on lights, checking heat etc.)
3. Assist other custodians with tasks that may require assistance or will be completed more expeditiously with additional help.
4. Maintain work area in a clean condition.
5. Sweep identified corridors and stairwells and other areas daily.
6. Monitor elevator and/or dumbwaiter as needed.
7. Advise the Building Coordinator daily about equipment breakdown, vandalism, other damage, equipment needs.
8. Monitor student lavatories and locker rooms.
9. Maintain storage and supply closets to promote ease of operation.
10. Follow all recommended safety procedures.
11. Lower the flag daily.
12. Open and close property gates as needed.
13. Remove snow from walks, driveways and parking areas.
14. Cleaning and sanitizing after spilled blood or vomit.
15. Maintain work hours and break times in accordance with the approved custodial contract.
16. Perform such other duties as may be required due to emergency situations or upon direction of the Director of Facilities, Building Coordinator, Evening Head Custodian, or the Building Principal.
17. Inform the Evening head custodian and Building Coordinator of equipment breakdown, problems due to vandalism or other damage, and equipment or supply needs.
Repair Responsibilities:
1. Tightening screws and nuts.
2. Touch-up painting and varnishing.
3. Adjusting window shades and blinds.
4. Securing loose or projecting nails or screws.
5. Adjusting furniture and equipment.
6. Cleaning clogged toilet and sanitary traps.
7. Adjusting door closers.
8. Replacing burned out lamps and fuses.
Mechanical Services:
1. Operating heating plant and documenting its operation.
2. Operating ventilating system.
Miscellaneous Services:
1. Storing materials.
2. Receiving delivery of supplies.
3. Moving furniture when requested.
Additional Services:
1. May at times be required to assume responsibility that the building is secured.
2. Additional duties, as may be required due to emergency situations or upon direction of the Director of Facilities, Building Coordinator, or the Evening Head Custodian.
Terms of Employment 12 months – full-time PVRSSA Contract Location – as assigned
