Job Summary
Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment. CANRA Penal Codes and related definitions, requirements, and responsibilities may be obtained online.
Advocacy includes assistance in coordinating services with local agencies on behalf of the subject in all areas, including student services, faculty and staff assistance, the local campus police department, coordination of legal advocacy, medical advocacy, and other assistance/University services as needed. The advocate participates in educational outreach services to University students, staff, faculty, and the local community.
UCSF seeks a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas. Given the nature of the work and constant problem-solving challenges, the incumbent is required to have the ability to analyze unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure.
This person typically works on highly complex issues with complainants of sexual violence, assault, stalking, or domestic violence. Situations generally require decisions on matters that may be unique, complex, without precedent, or may require quick thinking. Able to formulate strategies to best serve the complainant’s interests in the immediate and long-term resolution of their situation. Leads other staff in developing effective outreach campaigns and may manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources with a high degree of autonomy.
The incumbent is required to have experience in developing and conducting training on Sexual Harassment, Violence and Prevention, incivility, as well as other topics, including the University’s principles of community. position.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $78,900 - $167,300 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field (sociology, social work, psychology, public health) and minimum five years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
- A qualified psychotherapist with a master’s degree in counseling or has one year of counseling with six months rape crisis experience
License/Certification
- 40 hours of state recognized sexual assault certification training (California Certification for Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Training) issued by a counseling center that meets the criteria for the award of a grant established pursuant to Section 13837 of the California Penal Code, and which also meets one of the requirements listed in California Evidence Code Section 1035.2.
- 40 hours of state recognized domestic violence certification training (California Certification for Domestic Violence Advocates) issued by a counseling center that meets the criteria for the award of a grant established pursuant to Section 13837 of the California Penal Code, and which also meets one of the requirements listed in California Evidence Code Section 1037.1.
