Elementary Bilingual Classroom Teacher Primary Purpose: This position will focus on accelerating students' English language proficiency and academic skills in a collaborative and supportive environment. Ensure the development and delivery of the bilingual and ESL curriculum and instructional program is effective and efficient, incorporates district goals, and supports student achievement.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
Valid Texas teaching certification with an ESL endorsement.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Ability Proven experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs) in an elementary school setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition theory and effective instructional strategies for ELLs.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of staff, students, and parents.
Proficiency in utilizing educational software and technology to enhance learning opportunities.
Experience: Five years experience as an ESL educator
Five years experience in instructional leadership roles
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Provide intensive, supplemental English language development (ELD) and literacy instruction in small groups or one-on-one settings.
- Work with classroom teachers to identify students needing intervention, provide supplementary instruction, and monitor progress.
- Use assessment data to design and deliver targeted lessons that address students' specific linguistic and academic needs.
- Interpret language proficiency assessments, such as TELPAS, to evaluate student progress.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure the alignment of instruction and the effective implementation of sheltered instruction strategies.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and complete records of student progress, attendance, and all required documentation.
- Establish and maintain a supportive and nurturing learning environment that encourages student engagement and builds self-esteem.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, program activities, and available resources.
- Serve on the campus Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) to provide supporting documentation and data on student progress.
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development provided by the district.
- Provide support to classroom teachers on effective strategies for English language learners and differentiating instruction.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a standard elementary school and office environment.
Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, and the ability to move classroom equipment.
Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 20 pounds.
Maintain emotional control under stress.
