09/22/2025 Additional Information: Show/Hide - Creating, providing and ensuring a safe, healthy and welcoming learning environment for our learners’ ages three to five years is a primary responsibility of this position with space arranged so children can work independently, together in small groups, and space for large group activities is available as well. This position establishes daily routines that help guide the daily learning process and individual achievements. Teacher/Director plans activities and lessons by choosing materials that are developmentally appropriate and based on the needs of each child, including children with special education/needs. This role implements the District’s curricular framework ensuring all developmental areas are addressed. Other responsibilities include maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Employee uses positive techniques of guidance as outlined in the Pyramid Model Promoting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children, and Second Step Social/Emotional standards, including redirection, positive reinforcement, encouragement, consequences, and behavior interventions. This Teacher/Director role holds an expectation to deliver and maintain consistent clear expectations which are explained and taught to students. Guiding the learning toward the achievement of curriculum goals, the employee establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units of study, and special projects. Communicating these objectives and goals to students, parents/guardians, and support staff are a critical step in the early learner’s success.
- Teacher/Director Oversees the daily supervision of classroom paraprofessionals and/or volunteers includes managing appropriate daily duties assignments. This role also works collaboratively with building leadership at the assigned school providing input for job performance evaluations and discipline related matters.
- Documenting daily progress toward goals and according to the Office of ECE, District 51, federal and state laws, policies, procedures, and regulations is a weekly role of this position. Submissions may include the time spent working on student progression reports in accomplishing established goals. Required reporting includes progress reports on the assessments of each child’s developmental capabilities according to the tool Results Matters. Daily notes are used for the benefit of the student and CDE/CPP requirements, and are held to the highest professional standards. This position also provides regular reports and observations to parents regarding the progress and development capabilities for each child according to District evaluations systems and in keeping with federal, state and District policies and procedures.
- Employee role holds an expectation to participate in departmental level meetings, participate in professional learning when requested to do so and perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with preschool age students required; preference for prior school district Preschool and/or Kindergarten experience;
- Criminal background check, including the Central Registry of Child Protection (TRAILS), is required for hire;
- Valid Colorado driver’s license or Colorado identification required;
- Small Child Care Director Qualified (7.702.2) AND Early Childhood Teacher Qualified (7.702.54) per the Colorado Office of Early Learning Licensing Regulations; preference given for candidates with Large Directors License;
- Must successfully pass 35# lifting test upon hire (recertification every three years);
- Quality Behavioral Solutions Certifications (QBS) must be obtained within 60 days of hire;
- Must successfully complete Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First-Aid, and Medication training upon hire and prior to classroom assignment;
- Must successfully complete Center for Disease Control’s Preventions Universal Precautions training is required within 30 days of hire;
- Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by supervisor.

SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Director and assigned Building Leader this role facilitates the early learning process for young children through developmentally appropriate activities with consideration to a student’s unique development and intrinsic qualities. Employee responsibilities include a primary function to provide a safe, heathy, and welcoming learning environment in which children may begin their educational journey with the highest chance at success. The Preschool Teacher/Director provides a District approved curriculum that is alignment with the D51 Performanced- based Learning Model. The Preschool Director role is an integral part of the District’s social emotional learning by leading students through example and targeted expectations. This position also encourages and provides opportunities for family involvement and participation in their child’s education. As the employee communicates with parents, students, and other staff it is their responsibility to work professionally and cooperatively to facilitate these interactions.

AVAILABILITY: Planning and completing student home visits, parent-teacher conferences, and family field trips/activities is an expectation of this position to include before/after hours and evening meetings. As an FSLA non-exempt employee, there is an expectation to limit overtime by balancing the level of attendance at such events in conjunction with all other duties, obligations, and personal life.
