Position Overview
The Millstone Township School District is seeking a creative and student-centered Music Teacher to serve students in Grades 6–8 at the middle school level. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, caring community of educators committed to inspiring creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of music. The ideal candidate will empower students to develop their musical talents, explore diverse musical traditions, and experience the joy of performance and expression through general music classes, electives, and vocal programming.
Qualifications
Valid New Jersey Teacher of Music Certification (CE/CEAS/Standard)
Bachelor’s degree in music education or related field required
Prior teaching experience in middle school or comparable setting preferred
Strong musicianship and understanding of adolescent learners
Ability to create engaging lessons aligned with NJ Student Learning Standards in Visual and Performing Arts
Experience planning and directing vocal music programs and performances
Willingness to teach a variety of music-themed electives (e.g., guitar, keyboard, world drumming, music technology, etc.)
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Performance Responsibilities
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate general music instruction for Grades 6–8
Guide students toward achieving musical literacy, appreciation, and creativity
Foster an inclusive, positive learning environment that supports all learners
Assess student growth and provide timely, constructive feedback
Identify and support students with exceptional musical potential and those needing additional support
Direct the middle school vocal music program, including rehearsals, concerts, and school performances
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music into interdisciplinary learning and schoolwide events
Maintain accurate records and participate in curriculum development
Support the ongoing growth of the music program through advocacy, innovation, and community involvement

Skill in providing meaningful feedback and fostering student ownership of learning and portfolios
Flexibility, resilience, and a growth mindset when working in a dynamic, collaborative school community
Enthusiasm in contributing to exhibitions, school events, and enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom
Skill in designing lessons that foster a lifelong appreciation for art, beauty, and diverse cultural expressions

Salary Range: $66,000 - $75,500*
Salary & Benefits: *Per negotiated contract based on years of experience & degrees earned
