Job Summary
The Operations Manager – Commissioning is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of GATE Energy’s Commissioning Department. This role ensures projects are staffed effectively, executed safely and efficiently, and aligned with company standards and client expectations. The Operations Manager - Commissioning plays a critical role in resource management, process improvement, financial oversight, and maintaining strong relationships with both clients and employees.
Education and Experience
Required:
- 8+ years of relevant experience in commissioning, operations, or project management within the energy sector.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and coordinating multi-disciplinary resources.
- Strong understanding of commissioning processes, project execution, and safety standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline (or equivalent work experience).
- Prior experience with commissioning execution on large-scale oil & gas, LNG, or power generation projects.
- Familiarity with project controls, P6 scheduling, and PowerBI dashboards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, utilization, and financial performance.
- Knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory frameworks relevant to commissioning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project & Resource Management:
- Oversee planning and resourcing of commissioning personnel across multiple projects in the oil & gas, LNG, renewables, and power sectors.
- Support development of commissioning execution plans, procedures, and work instructions in alignment with GATE’s standards and client requirements.
- Monitor project performance, schedule adherence, and deliverables to ensure predictable, high-quality execution.
- Assist in project mobilization, including logistics, compliance, and onboarding of field teams.
Operational Excellence:
- Manage department operations, including staffing, utilization, forecasting, and performance metrics.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives in commissioning workflows, tools, and reporting systems.
- Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads, and corporate services (HSE, Finance, HR) to ensure operational consistency and compliance.
- Maintain and enforce adherence to GATE’s HSE and Quality Management Systems.
- Maintain communication with managers, staff, and vendors to ensure proper operations of the company.
- Increase the efficiency of existing processes and procedures to enhance the company’s internal capacity.
- Track staffing requirements, hiring new employees as needed.
Financial & Business Management:
- Track project budgets, cost performance, and resource allocation to optimize profitability.
- Support invoicing, billing accuracy, and working capital management in coordination with the finance team.
- Assist in developing annual department budgets, forecasts, and operational targets.
Leadership & People Development:
- Lead, mentor, and coach commissioning department personnel.
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and retention of commissioning staff, ensuring alignment with project and business growth needs.
- Promote GATE’s culture of accountability, technical excellence, and teamwork.
- Foster career development pathways and performance management for team members.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as a point of contact for clients on operational matters, supporting project delivery and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with business development and project management teams to support proposals, resourcing, and capability presentations.
- Represent the commissioning department in internal and external meetings, ensuring alignment of operations with strategic objectives.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, ramps, and access and utilize scaffolding.
- Ability to carry a tool bag (up to 50 lbs.), bend body downward and forward, kneel, climb & walk.
- Work extended shift hours, e.g., 12+ hours/day or as dictated by project requirements
- Ability to travel offshore and internationally
- Ability to pass a background check/drug screen, and/or a physical.
