- Maintains a neat and well landscaped campus which involves such duties as cutting and edging grass, laying pine straw around trees and shrubs, fertilizing lawns and plants, pruning shrubs, applying water to plants as needed, removing trash and debris, raking leaves, planting flowers, etc.
- Conducts general building maintenance which involves such duties as repairing lights, doors, commodes, sinks, ceiling tiles, security and fire systems, etc.
- Cleans heating and air conditioning unit ducts as needed.
- Completes district-wide asbestos awareness training and participates in local facility asbestos awareness activities.
- Repairs equipment and furniture as assigned such as vending machines, ice machines, dish washers, etc.
- Assembles furniture as requested; moves furniture as needed.
- Reports major repair and safety needs to the Head Custodian.
- Knows the locations of all electrical, gas and water cut-off locations throughout all facilities.
- Assists with maintaining motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
- Ensures that effective energy practices occur and are monitored on a daily basis.
- Cleans indoor areas involving such duties as sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning tables, vacuuming, cleaning carpet, etc.
- Assists in requisitioning supplies and materials as needed to perform duties of the entire housekeeping staff.
- Assists in opening and closing of the building daily, as work schedule dictates.
- Maintains parking lots involving such duties as removing debris, painting lines, etc.
- Maintains all grounds equipment involving such duties as cleaning, sharpening and replacing blades, changing engine oil, spark plugs, air filters, belts, pulleys, tires, wheels, etc.
- Supervises the work of housekeepers as assigned providing guidance and training, coordinating work, scheduling and reviewing work, and ensuring adherence to schedules.
- Maintains files and records of equipment, inventory, reports, data sheets, inspections, work calendar, and auction equipment.
- Maintains SDS (Safety Data Sheets) sheets on all products used on the local work site and assists in providing annual training to the housekeeping staff.
- Assists cafeteria workers with heavy lifting, loading and unloading food items, supplies, and trash.
- Assists in checking the water supply system daily to determine proper functioning.
- Assumes responsibility for compliance with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, debris and waste.
- Operates maintenance equipment such as tractor, mowers, weed eaters and edgers, buffers, power tools, etc.
- Utilizes various cleaning supplies, hand tools, and landscaping agents.
- Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
- Provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
- Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication, as appropriate.
- Operates general office equipment as needed.
- Wears required safety goggles, gloves, non-slip shoes and other protective equipment as needed based on the nature of assigned tasks.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the head custodian, is responsible for the landscape of the institution’s campus and maintaining the cleanliness of its facilities. Conducts a wide variety of grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance, and general equipment repair duties. Supervises subordinate housekeeping staff as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory responsibilities for housekeeping staff as assigned. Responsible for addressing and/or reporting malfunctions in equipment and all safety issues.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.

Frequent contact with strong cleaning agents. Moderately heavy physical exertion is frequently required to lift and move objects weighing up to 150 pounds. Mechanical devices should be used for objects weighing over 50 pounds. Routine travel is required; no overnight travel is required.
