JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Overview
The Student Information System (SIS) Coordinator is responsible for the overall administration, support, and strategic use of the district’s Student Information System (PowerSchool). This role ensures data integrity, compliance with state and federal reporting requirements, and effective use of SIS tools to support teaching, learning, and operations across the district. The SIS Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between district departments, school staff, and the technology team regarding student data and system functionality.
Key Responsibilities
- System Administration & Support
- Manage and maintain the district’s PowerSchool SIS, including setup, upgrades, and configuration.
- Provide technical support and training for school and district staff on SIS functionality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve SIS-related issues in collaboration with the technology department and PowerSchool support.
- Integrate and manage third party applications (plugins) with SIS.
- Data Management & Compliance
- Oversee data accuracy, integrity, and security across all student records.
- Coordinate with Testing and Accountability to ensure state and federal reporting submissions, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
- Develop and monitor processes for enrollment, scheduling, attendance, grading, transcripts, and other core SIS functions.
- User Training & Documentation
- Develop user guides, training sessions, and resources for staff to effectively use PowerSchool.
- Serve as a resource for school administrators, counselors, and office staff regarding SIS processes and policies.
- Support data-driven decision-making by assisting staff with reporting and analytics.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with the Director of Technology and other district leaders to align SIS operations with district goals.
- Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure system integrations (e.g., assessment tools, LMS platforms, special programs).
- Stay current on best practices, updates, and regulatory changes impacting student information systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Prior experience with PowerSchool SIS administration (required).
- Strong knowledge of student data reporting, FERPA, and K–12 compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and spreadsheets.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to train and support end users with varying levels of technical expertise.
- Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy and completeness
- Detail- and deadline-oriented, with a consistent record of producing accurate, complete work on time.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a K–12 public school district or educational technology setting.
- Familiarity with third-party integrations (e.g., learning management systems, assessment platforms).
- Knowledge of SQL, data imports/exports, and report writing within PowerSchool.
- Data analysis
