Moneycare is The Salvation Army’s (Salvos) national financial counselling and financial capability program which seeks to alleviate hardship and build long term resilience. The Salvos understands that everyone’s financial situation is different. Our evidence-based methods are professional, caring and have a holistic impact on the lives of those who come to us seeking assistance.

About the role

As a Financial Counsellor, this is your opportunity to provide financial counselling for people who are in financial difficulty or hardship, or are wishing to avoid such situations, to develop and implement community member centred case plans and develop options that alleviate financial hardship, develop financial resilience, improve mental health and improve personal wellbeing.

Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a max-term, part-time position offering 22.8 hours per week, based in Geraldton, WA.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award, Level 5.


How you will make an impact

  • Effective relationships are established with community members that encourage self-determination and participation

  • A community member centred, holistic approach. Focusing on a relational, missional and professional ethos in all case work

  • A collaborative approach taken in providing the best level of service to community members

  • Service delivery is provided in accordance with The Salvation Army standards and procedures and The Salvation Army Practice Framework, aligned with relevant legal and regulatory requirements

What you will bring

  • Hold the Diploma of Financial Counselling and are an accredited member of a state based recognised financial counselling association

  • Experience working with people who may not have English as a first language

  • Knowledge of local Aboriginal Communities and Culture

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under conflicting time pressures

  • Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds

  • Demonstrated money management and negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work with people suffering difficulties and crisis

  • A national police record check is required.

  • Relevant state Working With Children Check is required.

  • Current Driver’s licence (if travel required)

  • Some intrastate travel associated with outreach service may be required
