Position Title: Shipping & Receiving Specialist
Reports To: Warehouse Team Leader
FLSA Status: Hourly
Job Grade: 2
Pay Range: $22.35-$31.94 per hour
Position Overview:
The Shipping & Receiving Specialist is responsible for the accurate, efficient, and safe handling of all inbound and outbound materials, ingredients, packaging, and finished goods. This role ensures proper receiving, inventory rotation, cycle counts, and shipping documentation while supporting warehouse operations and maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Inventory
- Receive, inspect, and document all inbound loads (purchase orders, transfer orders, and vendor shipments).
- Rotate inventory upon receipt following FEFO (First Expired, First Out) standards.
- Coordinate placement of raw materials, supplies, and finished goods after inspections are completed.
- Perform weekly and month-end cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory levels.
- Assist in troubleshooting errors within the Warehouse Management System.
Shipping & Coordination
- Ensure outbound shipments are prepared, staged, and loaded in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
- Wrap and secure skids as needed to prepare for shipment.
- Print and apply product labels accurately.
- Provide directions to hi-lo drivers and coordinate inbound/outbound truck activity.
- Maintain constant communication with Logistics, Production, and Warehouse teams.
Warehouse Operations & Safety
- Support 5S standards and a safe working environment in the warehouse.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, stand-up lifts, and other warehouse equipment safely.
- Cross-train in warehouse positions and provide backup support for team members.
- Maintain accurate paperwork, filing, and system records related to shipments and inventory.
Food Safety & Quality Compliance
- Follow all GMPs and food safety protocols.
- Immediately notify supervision of any equipment, process, or quality issues that may impact food safety.
- Ensure compliance with quality manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Take corrective action on nonconforming product until issues are resolved.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; additional warehouse training or certification preferred.
- 2+ years of shipping/receiving of warehouse experience required.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to retrieve, analyze, and input data accurately.
- Understanding of Warehouse Management Systems.
- Knowledge of 5S principles and inventory rotation (FEFO).
- Ability to obtain/maintain forklift and Hi-Lo certifications.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours.
- Frequent bending, reaching, wrapping, and re-stacking of pallets.
- Exposure to warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, pallet wrap machines, scissor lifts).
- Work in temperature-controlled environments ranging from 34°F to 77°F.
- Ability to navigate all areas of the facility, including office spaces, warehouse areas, and the exterior perimeter.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to safely perform job duties.
- Ability to stand, sit, and carry out tasks throughout a full shift, with appropriate meal breaks.
- Physically capable of standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and crouching as needed.
- Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with reasonable accommodations.
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform job duties accurately.
- Capable of assessing weights, judging distances, and working at various heights.
Work Schedule:
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm; occasional Saturdays as needed.
