The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law-abiding citizens. We are seeking a dedicated Vocational Instructor to deliver hands-on training and career readiness instruction to youth in secure care facilities. This role is essential to OJJ’s rehabilitative mission, empowering justice-involved youth with practical skills, confidence, and pathways to employment upon reentry.


Position Duties

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree with documented work experience in the vocational area
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, or a a Career and Technical Trade and Industrial Education Certificate (CTTIE)
    • CTTIE Certification requires:
      • High School Diploma/GED minimum
      • 4+ years of experience in the trade area
      • Proof of industry certification or licensure (e.g., NCCER, OSHA, CDL, Cosmetology License)
      • Completion of LDOE's CTTIE Application and approval process

Minimum Qualifications

The incumbents will work 7.5 hours per work day.

Job Duties:

The incumbent of this position  will assist the principal in the daily operations of the school site and ensure it runs efficiently. Additionally, this position requires the
incumbent to communicate in a professional manner with students, staff, supervisors and other stakeholders.

Duties/Examples of Work include but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Practice excellence in teaching and instruction

  • Design and deliver vocational instruction in one or more trades (e.g., carpentry, welding, culinary arts, horticulture, automotive repair, etc.)

  • Demonstrate evidence of professional growth and academic in the specified vocation curriculum/training.

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and trauma-informed learning environment

  • Integrate soft skills, workplace ethics, and character education into daily instruction

  • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, and education staff to support holistic youth development

  • Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to transition planning

  • Participate in professional development and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
