Overview of the Malden Public Schools: The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located within the Greater Boston area and accessible by the MBTA orange line train.  Malden’s student body comprises approximately 6,800 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. Description:

The Math Assistant will provide math instruction to an identified at-risk population. The Math Assistant will work with the specialists, school Math coach, and the classroom teachers to design and teach intervention lessons that meet the specific needs of small groups or individual 

students. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide intervention services to at-risk children in math in order to accelerate their Math skills 
  • Participate with the specialists and the classroom teachers to design appropriate Math support to meet student needs. 
  • Conduct individual diagnostic testing of students and analyze results with the school’s Math coach. 
  • Assist in administering appropriate testing of students and the analysis of results. 
  • Meet with the specialists and classroom teachers to share observations of student performance and progress. 
  • Participate in training sessions provided onsite by the grant. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues at regular meetings. 
  • Participate in other related tasks.
  • Attend initial training (paid) prior to start date. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working the children, urban education, and a diverse setting 
  • Collaborative and strong interpersonal skills 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced teacher, tutor, or paraprofessional with strong math skills 
  • MA DESE licensed Mathematics (Preferred), Early Childhood Education or Elementary Teacher 

Reports to: Building Principal, Director of STEM 

 

Hours and Salary: Up to 19 hours per week at $28 per hour 

 

Funding Source: Title I Grant

 

Start Date:  Approximate beginning of the 2025-26 school year

 

End Date: Approximate ending of the 2025-26 school year
