Job Description

This position exists to provide support to the Central Lakes College's Meat Cutting Program students and faculty. This position will assist in demonstrating the use of equipment and materials, including proper techniques, safety considerations, and maintenance of equipment to promote student success. Under limited supervision, the Meat Cutting Lab Assistant will assist in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and working order of the labs, including preparation of rooms, tools, equipment, and resources of the Meat Cutting department on the Staples campus.

Salary Range:

$20.89-$28.78/hr, $43,618-60,093annually

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree or relevant licensure in meat cutting and butchery, OR
  • 6 months of teaching/tutoring experience in meat cutting & butchery at the high school level or above, OR
  • 2 years of work experience in meat cutting and butchery where no degree/certificate/diploma/ licensure is required, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Skill in training and guiding the work assignments of students in work areas.

  • Ability to move and/or transport up to 50 pounds.

  • Knowledge of meat processing terms and equipment.

  • Knowledge of the meat curing process.

  • Experience with the safe use and simple repair of hand-held tools and other meat processing machinery.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions sufficient to independently complete assignments timely using accepted practices and safe techniques.

  • Organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering results and meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing sufficient to complete the tasks assigned.

  • Ability to think and act quickly in a critical situation.

  • Ability to read and comprehend information necessary for student assessment. 

  • Skill in customer service sufficient to effectively communicate, listen to, and elicit information with tact and diplomacy.
