The Department of Engineering Technology at Miami University Regionals (Hamilton Campus) seeks a full-time Manufacturing Specialist to support operations at the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce and Innovation Hub. This unclassified staff position is responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting instructional and applied research laboratories in advanced manufacturing, automation, and industrial robotics. The Manufacturing Specialist will play a key role in ensuring a safe, functional, and innovative environment for students, faculty, and industry partners.Job Description
Laboratory Operations and Maintenance
- Oversee day-to-day operations of multiple laboratory spaces, including robotics, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, PLC systems, and mechatronics.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance; coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Ensure lab cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety regulations.
Technical Instructional Support
- Provide technical assistance for lab courses, senior design projects, and industry-sponsored or workforce training initiatives.
- Set up and configure equipment in alignment with faculty instructional needs.
- Train students on the safe and effective use of lab tools and technologies, including robotic arms (e.g., FANUC), CNC machines, and instrumentation.
Safety, Compliance, and Access
- Enforce laboratory safety protocols and compliance with OSHA standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and maintain training documentation for lab users.
- Manage lab access, including oversight of after-hours use and security.
Procurement and Inventory
- Maintain inventory of lab tools, supplies, and consumables.
- Coordinate purchasing and vendor relations in accordance with university procurement policies.
- Support budgeting and resource planning related to lab operations.
Industry and Faculty Support
- Assist faculty with curriculum development, applied research, and external training initiatives.
- Collaborate on grant-funded and industry-sponsored projects.
- Support outreach events, workshops, and lab demonstrations for regional employers and educational partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, or a relevant field; OR Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field and at least 3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, engineering lab, or technical training environment
- Proficiency with one or more systems: industrial robotics, CNC machining, PLCs, or mechatronics.
Preferred Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Experience working in a university or technical training setting; Industry certifications (e.g., FANUC HandlingTool, Siemens S7); Experience with instructional technologies and workforce training; Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; Demonstrated commitment to lab safety and professional development
