The Communications Department of the Enrollment Division is recruiting a federal work student as a Creative Writer. All applicants must be participating in the federal work study program. This is a hybrid position with 2 in-person hours
required per week for purposes of collaboration with team members. The
in-person segment of the position will be located at Booker House 1709 University Avenue Charlottesville VA.
Department Overview
At the University of Virginia, the Enrollment division works to recruit, enroll, and support UVA’s student body. Enrollment offices at UVA include the Office of Undergraduate Admission, Office of the University Registrar, UVA One Stop, AdviseVA, and Commonwealth Partnerships. The Enrollment communications team serves as a central resource for these units, helping to shape and share the University’s story. Enrollment Communications is building a Student Creative Team, composed of three different positions to help support the communications work of our unit.
Position Overview
The Creative Writer helps the Enrollment team craft compelling and memorable written content for our communications projects. If you love words and admire their power to inspire action, this is a great role for you. Working closely with graphic designers and other team members, this position will help bring the established voice and tone of Enrollment to life. The Creative Writer will develop written content for diverse projects, from digital outreach to print mailers and everything in between.

General Responsibilities
- Participate in cross-team meetings and planning sessions for communications work.
- Deliver creative written content that supports project goals, honors grammar rules, and embraces the voice and tone of UVA Enrollment.
- Dive into the creative process, embracing feedback, crafting multiple drafts, and producing finalized content that is memorable and compelling.
- As needed, interview fellow students, faculty, and staff to capture stories, quotes, and background for communications projects.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must be eligible for a Federal Work-Study award that can be applied to this role
- Must be willing to work 10-20 hours per week, with at least 2 hours in-office, scheduled in conjunction with other Student Creative Team members to enable collaboration
- Have a keen eye for grammar and develop a deep understanding of University style guidelines. Be the expert when people ask: “Does ‘Hoos have an apostrophe?”.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with team members and fellow students
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
All interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter in addition to being a participant in the federal work study program. This is a paid position
offering undergraduate students $15.00 per hour and graduate students 16.00 per hour.
The position begins the week of September 29, 2025 and ends May 8, 2026.
