Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Academic Technology, the Instructional Designer & Online Learning Specialist provides vision and leadership in the design of online programs and courses. Through collaborations with deans, program directors, faculty, and staff, the Instructional Designer & Online Learning Specialist leverages effective instructional strategies to support students enrolled in online courses, and promotes best practices in LMS use for in-person classes. They consult individually with faculty and collaborate with the Director of Academic Technology to coordinate educational development programming and resources, promoting the integration of online education initiatives into the broader academic goals of the college.

50%: Improves the quality of online instruction at Endicott
Provides visionary leadership in the development and implementation of online teaching and learning initiatives across all of our online programs
Leads the online course design process and the development of online courses, working with teachers to promote effective instructional strategies to improve the performance of students enrolled in online courses
Designs and promotes the use of Canvas templates, master courses, and blueprints for in-person and online instruction
Collaborates with deans and program directors on initiatives to improve online instruction
Liaises with other members of the Academic Technology department to coordinate support and new programs and initiatives
Stays current with the latest online learning tools and technologies and manages the piloting of new tools in online courses
Uses Canvas data analytics to collect and report quality assurance metrics
30%: Provides exceptional education development opportunities for faculty
In collaboration with the Director of Academic Technology, the Teaching and Learning Committee, and faculty and staff from across campus, develops educational development opportunities for faculty, with an emphasis on online instruction and best uses of the LMS for in-person classes
Facilitates regular programs for the Academic Technology department, including workshops, trainings, learning communities, and badges
Consults with faculty who are developing online courses
Assist faculty redesigning assessments given developments in AI technologies
Develops online teaching resources, including asynchronous resources, videos, and credentials (Badge/micro-credentials)
Supports the continued development of the faculty Canvas page and resources
Promotes the scholarship of teaching and learning, with an emphasis on online instruction.
Helps produce a newsletter to share with faculty highlighting Academic Technology initiatives
Serves on college-wide committees
Partners with faculty in improving course accessibility.
20%: Supports Canvas management
Participates in monthly calls with Canvas customer service manager, stays current with the latest features in Canvas and promotes their use on campus.
Provides additional technical support for Canvas via Freshservice ticketing system and one-on-one meetings.
Obtains advanced certifications in Canvas.

Knowledge of best practices in online and in-person teaching
Knowledge of learning management systems (preferably Canvas)
Background in accessibility, usability, experience design, as well as knowledge of instructional design models, strategies, and best practices in online teaching and learning.
Knowledge of emerging technologies and instructional design models as related to online teaching and learning in higher education.
Ability to build relationships with faculty and staff and collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders
At least 5 years of teaching experience in online, hybrid, and/or in-person environments
Master's degree in educational technology, instructional design, or learning engineering preferred
Canvas or Instructional Design certification or course work preferred.
