Who we are looking for

Global Credit Finance (GCF) is the lending division of State Street, a growing division within the organization.  The division’s mandate is to attract, support and retain bank clients through the use of our balance sheet and strong rating, and to add income and diversification to State Street’s portfolio of on and off balance sheet investments.  GCF is comprised of five product groups including Fund Finance, Leveraged Loans, Commercial Real Estate Lending, Stable Value Wrap, and Municipal Finance.  The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Lending team provides term loans secured by first lien mortgages on commercial real estate properties primarily to institutional clients, as well as Loan on Loan/Note on Note financing to CRE Debt fund clients of the Bank. The team is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, closing and providing ongoing surveillance of all the loans in the portfolio.

Why This Team

The CRE Lending team plays an important role in forging deeper relationships with existing and prospective clients, while also generating considerable net income and balance sheet diversification to the company’s bottom line. The CRE portfolio consists of loans on office, multi-family, hotel and retail institutional quality assets located in the U.S.  Currently the team is prioritizing Note on Note/Loan On Loan lending, but taking a similar approach to that for mortgage lending. 

The Successful Candidate

The successful VP candidate will bring 10+yrs of prior commercial real estate lending experience, demonstrated leadership experience and a positive attitude in leading the team through the duties of portfolio management.

What you will be responsible for

As VP Head of CRE Debt Portfolio Management, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate a team of analysts in all portfolio management tasks; including annual credit reviews and valuations, quarterly performance tracking, property inspections, and monthly/quarter team reporting
  • Ensure underlying CRE assets/collateral (securing our mortgage loan, or indirectly for Loan on Loan positions) are appropriately underwritten and valued, factoring in key market trends via third party reports and staying up to date with capital markets/macro conditions
  • Be responsible for client engagement for loans within the portfolio, including point of contact for any modification requests (light modifications, through to workout of defaulted positions alongside other key stakeholders, including Credit, Legal, and Finance as necessary)
  • Act as the point person for oversight of portfolio performance, leading presentations and discussions with Credit Committee, Quarterly Exposure Review, Co-Lenders etc
  • Liaise with internal operations and finance teams, and Third party servicer ensuring loan bookings, modifications, payoffs etc are appropriately captured and reflected in source sytems
  • Provide close and continuous management of team reports, identifying areas for improvement and helping build experience via providing clear and constructive feedback

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years experience within CRE Loan sector, preferably in a banking environment
  • Masters or Undergraduate degree, specializing in CRE or finance related workstreams
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate transaction documents, legal frameworks and loan agreements, used as a basis for assessing client requests for modifications
  • Strong valuation skillsets and experienced in assessing property values via different methodologies (incl Argus, direct capitalization, sales comp approaches)
  • Capacity to lead a team pro-actively, with a high level of motivation to ensure all tasks are assigned and completed in a timely manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a clear communicator (verbal and written), executive level PPT

Salary Range:

$130,000 - $205,000 Annual
