Senior Director of LDI

Job Summary:

The Senior Director of the Louisiana State University Leadership Development Institute (LDI) will be responsible for working towards the vision of LDI and ensuring the mission of LDI. In addition, this position will serve as senior advisor to the Dean on leadership development initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

30%--Strategic Leadership & Governance: Develop, revise, and operationalize a multi-year LDI strategic plan that aligns with CHSE and LSU strategic priorities. Translate vision into annual objectives, measurable KPIs, and robust assessment cycles; publish an annual “State of LDI” scorecard. Convene and chair the LDI Advisory Board, ensuring data-informed recommendations are incorporated into policy, programming, and resource allocation. Monitor emerging trends in leadership development and adjust institute strategy, policies, and risk-management practices accordingly. Identify and implement strategic initiatives that leverage LDI services to address key issues facing the State of Louisiana.

20%--Revenue Generation & Fiscal Stewardship: Lead a comprehensive revenue strategy that integrates philanthropy, competitive grants/contracts, fee-for-service offerings, and corporate sponsorships. Partner with the LSU Foundation and CHSE Business Office to design sustainable business and pricing models, prepare proposals, and steward donors. Oversee all budgets, restricted and unrestricted accounts, and endowments to maintain a positive operating margin; model multi-year financial scenarios. Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations governing contracts, gifts, grants, and sponsored projects.

15%--Program & Service Portfolio Oversight: Direct the ideation, design, and continuous improvement of evidence-based leadership programs, customized interventions, conferences, and executive-level coaching. Employ systematic needs assessments, stakeholder interviews, and post-program evaluations to maintain best-in-class content and learner outcomes. Expand and scale existing offerings to new markets (e.g., military, corporate, non-profit, education, industry, health care, biotech, etc.) while safeguarding instructional quality and brand integrity. Integrate instructional technology, adult-learning theory, and ROI analysis to demonstrate program impact.

15%--People & Culture Management: Recruit, onboard, supervise, and mentor a multi-disciplinary team—including Directors, Assistant Directors, Program and Operations Managers, coaches, program coordinators, GAs, student staff, subject matter experts, and other WAE experts. Establish clear performance metrics, professional-development pathways, and a high performing culture of psychological safety, trust, and innovation. Facilitate regular team retreats, one-on-one coaching, and cross-functional project teams to enhance collaboration and accountability. Champion data-informed decision-making and continuous-improvement mindsets across all levels of staff.

10%--External Relations & Brand Elevation: Responsible for the enhancement of LDI’s image by being active and visible in the community and through working closely with other professionals, civic and private organizations. Serve as the principal ambassador for LDI, cultivating relationships with industry partners, government agencies, military commands, and philanthropic organizations, and other community organizations. Oversee strategic marketing, communications, social-media strategy, and public-relations initiatives that heighten LDI’s visibility and reputation. Represent LDI and CHSE at high-profile events, keynote engagements, and advisory councils, articulating the Institute’s impact and value proposition. Collaborate with LSU Communications & University Relations to ensure brand consistency and media compliance. 

5%--Research, Scholarship & Service: Conduct or facilitate applied research on leadership and workforce-development topics; disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications, white papers, or conference presentations. Leverage research insights to inform program design and to position LDI as a thought-leader regionally and nationally. Contribute professional service to relevant academic or industry associations, task forces, and editorial boards. Mentor graduate assistants or early-career faculty/staff engaged in scholarship related to LDI’s mission.

5%--Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree + 10 years of related experience.

*Doctorate can substitute for 2 years of experience.

• Experience directing a revenue-generating center or institute within higher education.
• Proven track record securing philanthropic gifts and managing externally-funded projects.

A Driver's License

Cash Handling -This position has access to/directly handles cash. Financial history/credit check required per FASOP HR-04.

Due to the Nature of the position and/or responsibilities, in times of emergencies and/or University closures, this position is considered essential. It may be required to assist the Office of Communications and University Relations on Necessary Communications Matters in times of crisis, including potentially working in LSU's Emergency Operations Center during those times.
