Constructor University seeks applicants for the position of

Managing Director/ President (m/w/d)

(full-time, 38.5h/week, initially limited to 4 years)

Your responsibilities:

  • Managing the university in terms of German commercial code (HGB) and leading in terms of academic governance (university bodies)

  • Further developing the university strategy towards maintaining excellence in research and teaching with a clear academic profile and a sustainable business plan

  • Developing a strategy for a private, multi-disciplinary, international university rooted in Germany and developing its local and global expansion plans

  • Developing and implementing digitization processes in administration to turn the university into a show case for a digital enterprise

  • Successfully leading the Executive Board, Leadership Team and Academic Senate, and trustfully collaborating with all university constituencies as outlined in the University’s constitution. Particularly overseeing the economic growth and financial controlling

  • Internal representation, in particular intense communication with academic university community; fostering an appreciation culture for a trust-worthy, motivated work environment; contributing to building stakeholder-management relations

  • Strategically communicating with key constituencies, especially with trustees of the university and the city state of Bremen.

  • External representation of the university in Germany and abroad. Creating and sustaining long term, relevant relationships with political, economic, civic partners, professional associations, and media.

  • Developing strategic partnerships with high level strategic as well as funding partners at national and international level.

Your qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree and several years of responsible professional activity, in particular in science, business, administration, law, art or culture, demonstrating that you are up to the tasks of the office leading a higher education, academic institution (required)

  • 10+ years’ experience in strategic planning and execution and data-driven financial resources management

  • Strong leadership and management competencies to lead substantial change processes

  • Relevant professional experience in fields such as science, business, or culture is considered an asset, especially where it demonstrates the ability to contribute to the leadership of a higher education or academic institution

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and trusting working relationships with various complex stakeholders

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and strong motivational skills

  • Proven track record in increasing funding base either through funding partnerships or generation of new business opportunities

  • Proven international reputation and network in academia with established contacts to universities, other scientific and research institutions, donors, corporations as well as to public and politics

  • Excellent negotiation and diplomatic skills in business and government affairs

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Proven ability to lead and develop diverse organizations.
