Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of medication management services. Working closely with the Director of Pharmacy and Professional Practice Lead, this role oversees daily operations, supports staff development, and drives continuous improvement aligned with regulatory standards and organizational.
Key responsibilities:
  • Onboard, train, and supervise pharmacy staff during orientation in collaboration with the Professional Practice Lead.
  • Participate in performance evaluations for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
  • Coach, mentor, and lead staff to foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
  • Manage day-to-day pharmacy operations, including staff scheduling, vacation approvals, weekly meetings, and purchase authorizations.
  • Provide backup coverage for the Director of Pharmacy as needed.
  • Coordinate drug distribution workflows to ensure timely, accurate, and seamless medication delivery.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and workload measurement programs.
  • Lead or support continuous quality improvement initiatives aligned with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) Hospital Pharmacy Assessment Criteria and Accreditation Canada standards.
  • Evaluate pharmacy services for safety, efficiency, and staff competency.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital committees or working groups as assigned.
  • Contribute to policy and process development, research, and strategic planning.
  • Uphold the values and goals outlined in the Corporate Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination-Free Policy and all safety protocols.
  • Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy learners (students, residents).
  • Participate in drug formulary reviews and drug use evaluations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or entry level Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), from a recognized university as determined by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
  • Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency, or a postgraduate clinical pharmacy degree is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a hospital management position is considered an asset.
  • Registration and in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A).
  • Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy standards (OCP, NAPRA, CSHP)
  • Experience or familiarity in CPOE (computer prescriber order entry), BMV (bedside medication verification, eMedRec (electronic medication reconciliation), eMAR (electronic medication administration records), EMR (electronic medical/ health record) is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with electronic health record  clinical software applications
  • Experience in the medication reconciliation process.
  • Working knowledge of modern hospital care and drug therapy, including knowledge of medication safety risks in health care.
  • Experience or familiarity in pharmaceutical research in health care settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability for self-directed learning and working.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing.  Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
