Description
The OMNIMAX Theater Operator/Host works as part of a team that loads and starts the Theater programming and coordinates the flow of visitors in and out of the Theater, all with exceptional customer service and professional show presentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Load movie files and play them to start shows.
- Usher visitors in and out of the Theater in a timely and service-oriented fashion.
- Responsible for the safe operation of the IMAX with Laser projection and sound system all accompanying media and ADA equipment.
- Theater staff is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors at the OMNIMAX and the SLSC as a whole.
- Assist and direct visitors (especially those with special needs) before, during, and after the show, scanning tickets, providing hearing and visual assistance equipment, monitoring the audience for disruptive or unsafe behavior, cleaning up the Theater between shows, and making necessary announcements over a public address system. This includes following procedures for emergency evacuation of the Theater and the diligent reporting of any visitor injuries.
- Maintain integrity of the Theater environment (free of outside noise and light) and professionalism in presentation in order to not “break the spell” of the IMAX movie experience.
- Proactively interact with visitors and attempt to anticipate any special needs they may have that may affect their Theater experience (trouble walking, hearing or vision impairment, etc.). Subsequently help them by directing them to the proper accessible entrance, or by doing whatever is appropriate to help in the given situation.
- Coordinate with other SLSC departments via radio to address relevant issues, i.e. building maintenance and cleanliness, and security (lost children, etc).
- Attend staff meetings and/or training sessions to encourage teamwork, strengthen and promote communication, and enhance professional growth.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
COMPETENCIES
- Must be able to understand basic computer and multimedia system troubleshooting.
- Critical thinking skills required to understand operation of complex media system.
- Follow instructions and emergency procedures with little to no supervision.
- Be trusted with the operation of very expensive sensitive equipment, and with the visitor experience in a flagship venue of the Saint Louis Science Center that serves hundreds of thousands of people a year.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma desired but not required.
Customer service in a similar venue highly desirable, some technical experience in a similar venue also highly desirable. Intermediate to advanced computer operation skills required – familiarity with a variety of user interfaces such as Windows, Mac, tablets, media player software, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to go up and down steps with reasonable proficiency during the course of a day in a Theater with stadium style seating. Be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods, operate tickets scanners, and have standard (with correction) day/night vision and hearing. Must be able to lift and handle various cleaning equipment such as brooms and dust pans. Ability to make clear announcements on a public address system.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Large format movie theater in a public museum setting. Must be able to work in large crowds and loud noise.
