The Goodwill Excel Center Adult High School is currently seeking a Night CTE Teacher for our Norwood Campus, located at 1015 Norwood Park Blvd.

The Goodwill Excel Center is the first free, public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 18-50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin postsecondary education. There are seven campuses within the charter district. Two campuses are in Austin: one at the Goodwill Community Center and one in South Austin in partnership with American YouthWorks. The primary role of the Special Programs Paraprofessional is to provide general and specialized assistance to students who receive services within Special Programs. Incumbent must exercise judgment in handling student disciplinary issues and in assessing students’ skill levels. Additionally, the approach will support the Goodwill of Central Texas mission and vision.

POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Night CTE Teacher is an integral staff member of the Excel Center. This teacher serves the evening classes at the Norwood campus. This teacher will teach a career exploration and social-emotional learning class to incoming students, but also integrate these students into the advising work of the District team (Director of Career Education and College and Career Coach).  


The CTE Teacher will build relationships with students and liaisons between the students, employers, and post-secondary education and training partners. In addition, they will work with staff to facilitate small group career development workshops, as well as develop and lead the Excel online career development platform, focused on career exploration, skill-building, and exposing students to certification. The Career Readiness Teacher will help students make successful transitions back into high school and launch them on a path of sustained progress into viable industry certifications, internships/apprenticeships, and dual enrollment avenues. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The core responsibilities of the Career Readiness Teacher fall under the following categories:

Career Readiness Instruction

  1. Provide instruction to students in Career Readiness Courses that ensures mastery of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

  2. Using a student-centered approach, assess individual student progress and learning needs to build and shape instruction around student socioemotional and academic realms.

  3. Document and maintain attendance, grades, and progress reports according to District policy.

  4. Use assessment data to refine lessons and inform creative and innovative instructional practices to achieve learning goals.

  5. Implement a clear and consistent classroom management system that aligns with the Instructional Team and Campus-wide initiatives while supporting the growth and development of student’s character and sense of community in the classroom.

  6. Use teaching strategies that include but are not limited to direct instruction, one-on-one instruction, seminars, small group learning, self-paced lessons, blended learning courses, tutorials for mastery, and online learning tools. 

  7. Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade/ability-level activities, and school-wide functions aimed at improving student retention, productivity, school culture, and new student onboarding.


College and Career Development

  1. Use evidence-based coaching and academic strategies and tools (e.g. motivational interviewing, career assessments, interest inventories, etc.) to facilitate student college and career exploration and selection of dual enrollment certification programs- via both one on one and group sessions.

  2. Provide one-on-one career planning with entering students, and partner with life coaches to maintain and update a career plan throughout a student’s Excel journey.

  3. Work in collaboration with the Career team, life coaches, academic advisors, and alumni coaches to ensure college and career exploration is embedded within the comprehensive graduation and career planning process.


Student Success Coordination and Partnerships

1. Provide support, work closely, and maintain open communication with leadership, staff, and students to support students’ career development success and ensure student engagement and retention. 

2. Identify and engage students via one on one or group coaching sessions who may need additional support in selecting career or college pathways.

3. Maintain ongoing collaboration with key community partners (community agencies, educational institutions, and employers) to enhance the array of student career and college-related opportunities.

4. Function as a liaison between students, the campus, and external entities (partnership programs) to ensure students make successful transitions and sustain progress into viable industry certifications.


Documentation, Data Collection, and Tracking Outcomes

1. Work in collaboration with other staff to contribute to the development of district CCMR, related metrics, and ensure ongoing tracking and data collection around this plan.

2. Manage and monitor student information to ensure academic progress before and during the transition to certification programs.

3. Document interactions with all students in the school database by ethical quality, quantity, and timeliness standards.
4. Conduct research-based activities to gather quantitative and qualitative data around student interest, career pathway entry, and other event-related activities (such as workshop attendance and engagement).

5. Provide regular reporting data (both quantitative and qualitative) related to applicable grant metrics to demonstrate student and position progress, goals, and gaps. 


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist the school team with outreach efforts and community integration events throughout the school year (periodically at night and on weekends).
2. Collaborate with Student Experience, Instructional, Operational, Coaching, and other Campus and District teams to address student success. 

3. Attend all team and professional development meetings. 

4. Flexibility to commute to surrounding Austin Excel Campuses.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree. 
2. Two years of experience in social work, counseling, advising, academic guidance, education, or a related field. 
3. Two years’ experience working with marginalized populations.  

4. Valid Driver’s License, up-to-date auto insurance, and good driving record.

5. Must be able to understand work instructions in English.

6. Must have a framework for understanding socioemotional, behavioral, and educational trends related to providing key student supports in an adult-academic setting.

7. Must have a working knowledge of computer programs and accessing internet applications such as Google Classroom.  

8. Knowledge of community resources.

9. Must possess superior verbal and written communication skills.

10. Must be self-motivated and willing to be a team player.

11. Must be adaptable to shifting priorities while maintaining a positive learning environment.

12. Strong socioemotional and behavioral intervention skills.

13. Must have the ability to embrace change positively and manage a workload independently.  

14. Ability to gather and analyze data for informed decision-making.  

15. Ability to develop relationships and relate to a diverse population.

16. Must possess the essential mindset that all students can achieve at high levels.

17. Must understand marginalization and how it affects those Goodwill serves and employs.

18. Must respect the diversity of thought and have the experience to advance it in teams/organizations.

19. Must demonstrate a maturity of practice using the 7 pillars and principles of servant leadership.

20. Must be able to successfully pass a background check and complete fingerprinting.  


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current Texas teaching certification.

2.  At least two years of classroom teaching experience.

3.  Ability to provide interventions and supports for special education students.
4. Ability to provide interventions and supports for English Language Learners. 
5. Bilingual in Spanish and/or Arabic.  
6. Experience working with high school students in urban, non-traditional, and/or adult education settings.
