Job Description:

The Wastewater Collections Worker will perform manual work involving installation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems, and operate related equipment.  

Job Duties: (Must be able to perform thesefunctions with or without a reasonable accommodation).

  • Installs, maintains, andrepairs of wastewater collection utility systems, utility lines, and liftstations; inspects and repairs lift stations and pumps; cleans and degreaseslift stations; dispenses deodorizers at lift stations; repairs, cleans, andjets sewer lines; operates TV camera to view sewer lines and locate lateral lines;locates, contains, and cleans up sewer overflows; installs sewer service linetaps; locates manholes and sewer lines; raises manhole covers; assists inrepairing water mains, gas mains, and pipe leaks; maintains drying bed andpumps; sets up bypass pumps.
  • Reads and records pumprunning times; retrieves pump run time information from computer.
  • Cuts, breaks up, andremoves asphalt/concrete; paints lift stations; builds and maintains fencingaround lift stations; mows and maintains right-of-way areas; lifts/movesequipment and heavy materials.
  • Transports, hauls, loads,and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects or at work sites.
  • Performsgeneral/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, andtools in operable condition, which may include inspecting vehicles/equipment,refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, repairing andservicing equipment, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, orcleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency andsafety; reports faulty equipment.
  • Follows established safetyprocedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensuresafety of employees and other individuals; reports any incidents, accidents,problems, or unusual situations.
  • Prepares or completesvarious forms, reports, correspondence, logs, call-out sheets, station cleaningrecords, camera video logs, maintenance records, or other documents.
  • Regularattendance is required as outlined in the company’s attendance policy.

 Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:  (these are required to perform the essential functions of the job).

  • After training, may be required to operate a variety ofequipment and tools associated with work activities, which may include autility truck, dump truck, backhoe, tractor, VAC truck, television camerainspection unit, bypass pump, lift station pump, generator, air compressor,jackhammer, meters, gauges, mechanic tools, carpentry tools, power tools, handtools, digging tools, measuring devices, or radio communications equipment.
  • Mustbe able to maintain a positive and professional attitude and an effectiveworking relationship with, and among coworkers.
  • Mustpossess effective communication skills with ability to handle difficult peopleor situations.
  • Mustbe able to stand and walk around regularly, both inside and outside, sometimesin inclement weather and on uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, reachoverhead and lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials in excess of50 lbs.  

Experienceand Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; and
  • Prior related experience; or any equivalent combinationof education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge,skills, and abilities for this job a plus.  
  • Must acquire a Class B CDL within 12 months of hire.
  • Must attain an ADEM Grade 1C Wastewater Operators licensewithin 12 months.  
  • Must possess and maintaina valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Must pass a Drug Screen andcriminal background check.
