This part-time (15-20 Hrs./week Nov-April) seasonal position plays a crucial role in helping deliver the success of the Team Boyne race programs. You will use strong communication and organizational skills to help facilitate program training and competition involvement on the front end with team members and the back end with the Competition Manager. A love for ski racing and the desire to put the athletes first while working on the hill is essential. Responsibilities:
Essential Duties: (including but not limited to):
Administrative Duties:
- Collaborate early season with Team Boyne program leadership on the seasonal program plans.
- Assist in the development of session plans that meet the standards of the US Ski and Snowboard Alpine Training System.
- Assist in conveying training plans to team members and athlete families.
- Assist in the communication of team member shift times, team member issues or other work-related issues.
- Utilize strong communication skills to communicate effectively with athletes, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
On-Hill Duties
- Direct oversight of 2-10 team members on a regular basis.
- Be present ahead of training sessions to brief coaching teams and delegate daily roles and tasks.
- Assist leadership in the training and development of program coaches and race crew.
- Facilitate training and race setup conducive to safety, fun, and learning.
- Safely set racecourses within US Ski and Snowboard discipline and age regulations.
- Administer or delegate check-in tasks of athletes at the beginning of each session.
- Work outside in extreme and quickly changing winter weather conditions.
- Coordinate and/or perform duties such as the setup of safety net, trail closure kits, signage.
- Must be able to maintain a great attitude while working with coaches and athletes at all skill levels.
Qualifications:
Qualifying Criteria for Position
Education and/or Experience
- Highschool / GED / Diploma required.
- Former work experience as an alpine race coach required.
Other Requirements
- USSS Level 100 Alpine Coach Certification or Higher required.
- Have a proven track record of maintaining a calm, professional demeanor in stressful situations.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, with varying hours based on competition service demands.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold, heat, rain, snow, wind, humidity, and dust/dirt. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

While performing the duties of this Job, the Team Member is required to:
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to ski for up to 8 hours per day.
- Must be able to work in harsh winter weather (cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Forward planning to ensure all race and event needs are facilitated with registrations, certifications, liability forms, permits, staffing, marketing and any other related element, including contracts and sanctioning agreements with USSA or other entities.
- Stage and maintain race equipment, including running timing systems & software.
- Work with race organizers, ski patrol, and lift operations to determine and enforce rules, procedures, and guidelines related to training and race courses and the associated arenas and equipment.
- Plan, organize, and schedule all race locations, pre to post event work, with associated teams, organizations, and mountain operations.
- Hires, trains, motivates and schedules race event crew to facilitate smooth event production, evaluates and directs staff in order to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives.
- Helps to create and enforce departmental operation plan that includes standards, guidelines, and objectives. Maintains other administrative processes such as responsible use of resources and staffing to ensure proper planning, efficient operation of events and successful achievement of department objectives.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is primarily outdoors in the winter weather. Temperature can vary greatly throughout the day and from day-to-day.
- Must be able to ski in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, sleet.
