The M365 Technical Lead is responsible for providing technical guidance, establishing design authority, and making key decisions for a complex Microsoft 365 migration between tenants. This role supervises vendor-led activities, including the approval of runbooks and cutover plans, the establishment of success and rollback criteria, and ensuring quality and compliance. Additionally, the Lead offers internal technical leadership as needed. Serving as the primary internal point of contact, the Lead coordinates governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to ensure secure and safe migrations across OneDrive, OneNote, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Exchange, Power Platform (Power Apps/Automate), and Power BI, all while minimizing disruptions to business operations.
Here’s what the role looks like:
- Act as M365 design authority for the migration: approve architecture patterns, runbooks, acceptance and rollback criteria; arbitrate technical choices across workloads and regions.
- Decision making & assurance: chair daily migration stand ups and go/no go forums; own defect triage, evidence based acceptance and hyper care exit.
- Security, identity & compliance alignment: ensure adherence to Entra ID, information protection, DLP/retention and audit obligations; own exceptions and remediations.
- Operational readiness & handover: ensure documentation, known issues and support playbooks are complete; confirm BAU support model/SLAs prior to exit.
- Stakeholder leadership: brief steering/design forums and BU leads; set clear user impact narratives and mitigation in comms and training.
Requirements
Essential
- Enterprise scale leadership across OneDrive, OneNote, SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, Power Apps/Automate and Power BI, with authoritative understanding of migration boundaries and remediation patterns.
- Vendor management with authority: proven track record holding suppliers to milestones, quality gates and acceptance under a formal RACI/SoW.
- Automation & telemetry: advanced PowerShell/Graph skills for assessment/validation; ability to define dashboards/status reporting that reflect business risk and readiness.
- Change leadership: leads pilots, hyper care and user readiness at scale with measurable outcomes; excellent communication for executive and end user audiences.
Preferred
- Power Platform/BI governance: environment strategy (DEV/UAT/PROD), DLP design, Dataverse/connector re binding; workspace and gateway strategies.
- Voice/meeting rooms exposure during tenant transitions and dependencies management.
- M&A / integration programmes with phased BU rollouts and complex dependency chains.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications.
