Job Description:

The Lead, Educational Developer plays a key role in enhancing academic capability across UPA by coordinating and delivering high-impact professional development that supports teaching quality, inclusive practice, curriculum enhancement, and student success. The role works closely with academic staff to strengthen learning and teaching through mentoring, facilitation, resource development, and engagement initiatives.

A central responsibility of this position is the coordination and delivery of the Teaching Excellence at Navitas (TEN) program, UPA’s professional learning framework for academic staff. The role also leads Learning & Teaching Services’ internal communications strategy and supports the annual UPA Learning & Teaching Conference, contributing to a strong culture of teaching excellence and collaboration across the division. The role may also contribute to broader strategic learning and teaching initiatives, particularly where academic capability, curriculum development, and professional development are key enablers.

KEY RESULT AREAS

Area 1: Leadership of the Teaching Excellence at Navitas (TEN) Program

  • Coordinate, deliver, and evaluate the Teaching Excellence at Navitas (TEN) program — UPA’s professional development suite for academic staff.
  • Lead and support the planning, design, and delivery of professional development initiatives across their respective focus areas where required.
  • Maintain an annual calendar of workshops, webinars, and learning activities that reflect institutional priorities and sector developments.
  • Align program content to key focus areas such as inclusive teaching, academic integrity, assessment, feedback, and student engagement.
  • Ensure all TEN offerings are underpinned by inclusive, evidence-informed, and innovative teaching practices.
  • Ensure high levels of participation, responsiveness to staff needs, and continuous improvement through evaluation and feedback cycles.

 

Area 2: Learning and Teaching Resource Development

  • Develop accessible, evidence-informed resources to support academic staff development, including quick guides, videos, and self-paced materials.
  • Collaborate with learning designers and technologist’s colleagues to support the development of interactive professional development modules that underpin the TEN program and broader PD initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment with TEN offerings and key institutional priorities.
  • Regularly review and update resources to ensure relevance, usability, and impact.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a centralised professional development resource library.

Area 3: Communications Strategy and Engagement

  • Lead the Learning & Teaching Services communications strategy to promote PD opportunities, resources, events, and L&T news.
  • Develop and distribute newsletters, digital announcements, and collateral to engage internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with L&T team members to increase visibility and participation in professional development initiatives.
  • Evaluate engagement and refine communication approaches based on reach and feedback.

Area 4: Conference and Strategic Event Leadership

  • Support the planning and delivery of the annual UPA Learning & Teaching Conference.
  • Manage responsibilities including theme development, presenter coordination, communications, and post-event evaluation.
  • Promote the conference as a key opportunity for academic staff development and community building.
  • Encourage academic staff participation through structured promotion and recognition
  • Contribute to the coordination and support of other associated learning and teaching events, workshops, and forums that strengthen professional development and collaboration.

Area 5: Evaluation, Reporting and Quality Assurance

  • Evaluate participation, engagement, and outcomes of TEN and related professional development initiatives.
  • Prepare reports for internal stakeholders summarising activity, reach, feedback, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with analytics and governance colleagues to align development initiatives with quality frameworks and performance metrics.
  • Support academic quality assurance by aligning capability-building activities with regulatory and partner university expectations.
  • Contribute to compliance-related reporting or audits where academic development activity is a relevant factor.

Area 6: Educational Engagement, Collaboration, and Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to divisional learning and teaching strategic projects as required, particularly where academic capability-building and professional development are key enablers.
  • Engage in scholarship of learning and teaching where relevant to academic development practice, and support dissemination of good practice among academic staff.
  • Facilitate peer learning opportunities, forums, and knowledge-sharing aligned with TEN and broader L&T goals.
  • Actively participate in team initiatives and cross-functional projects, contributing to shared goals, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Learning & Teaching Services and other business units to ensure coordinated delivery of development initiatives.
  • Stay informed on sector trends to ensure relevance and currency of professional development offerings.

Area 7: Curriculum, Scholarship and Contemporary Practice

  • Actively engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning through applied research, presentations, and/or publications (both internal and external).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop policies, frameworks, and incentives that foster a culture of scholarship of teaching and learning within Navitas.
  • Participate in cross-functional committees, working groups, and communities of practice to share expertise and advance institutional learning priorities.
  • Contribute to enhancing the student learning experience by strengthening the quality of teaching, assessment, and curriculum design.
  • Support curriculum development and review processes, ensuring alignment with contemporary pedagogical practice and institutional standards.
Qualifications:

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in education, academic development, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in academic development or professional learning roles in tertiary education.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and delivering structured professional development programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development and delivery, including teaching, and evaluation of curriculum, resources and practices that engages diverse cohorts of learners within a tertiary education context.
  • Proven facilitation skills across online and in-person settings with diverse academic audiences.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing internal communications strategies.
  • Proven ability to coordinate large-scale academic events or conferences.
  • Strong planning, time management, and project coordination capabilities.
  • Proven initiative and the ability to manage a number of complex tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to use data to evaluate impact and guide improvement of professional learning initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a team

Desirable Skills

  • Fellowship of Advance HE or eligibility to apply.
  • Experience working in international or pathway education settings.
  • Familiarity with higher education quality and compliance frameworks in Australia.
  • Experience creating asynchronous academic development resources.
  • Experience in scholarly research.
