As a Clinical Fellow, we want you to join to the Parkinson’s Disease Research Clinic to support outpatient assessments, research studies and clinical trials focused on Parkinson’s Disease and related conditions.

Do you have a passion for being part of a team combining excellence in research and teaching to enhance clinical outcomes and improve patients lives? This could be the role for you as we are seeking Clinical Fellows to assist us in delivering this vision as part of our team undertaking work focused on Parkinson’s Disease and related conditions.

The Clinical Fellow would work closely with Prof Simon Lewis and will have the opportunity to develop both clinical and research expertise, predominantly in the field of Parkinson’s Disease and related conditions. The role will involve working across a number of clinical trials targeting disease modification and symptomatic relief, as well as getting exposure to a range of research platforms including neuroimaging, neurophysiology, polysomnography and other biomarkers. The position could also be accredited as an elective year for a Neurology or Geriatrics Advanced Training program with prior approval from the relevant Specialist Training Committee.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to the research program and work towards first author publications. A key focus of the fellowship will be building and developing the successful candidate’s research experience, clinical knowledge and professional development.

About You


You will be a Medical Practitioner with a keen interest in Neurology or Geriatrics Who has completed a medical degree and holds AHPRA registration at the level of Medical Officer or above.  You should demonstrate experience or an interest in the field of neurodegenerative disease and have experience working with patients with cognitive impairment.  You should possess a professional and collaborative approach to research, liaising and working with research nurses, allied health professionals and the broader care team.

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification and registration as a medical practitioner in Australia

  • have a demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy, and information handling

  • possess the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision

  • are competent with critical assessment of vital signs, administration of medications, performing ECGs, venepuncture and cannulation, and assessing signs of clinical deterioration; as well as educating participants and families per study protocol

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Doctor

  • Working with Children Check Clearance

  • Immunisation Checks

  • Criminal History Check

Note: This position requires you to comply with Immunisation Screening in line with Macquarie University Health requirements and Accreditation with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This position also requires a current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance (WWCC) for NSW.  You will also have to satisfy MQ Health that you meet all background checks (including criminal history check completed as part of our pre-employment checks process)
